Susan Wojcicki, the former CEO of YouTube and one of the most influential female executives in Silicon Valley, died Friday after two years of living with lung cancer. In 2016, Wojcicki spoke at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit with creator ‪Grace Helbig and Fortune’s Jennifer Reingold on the evolution of media, the creator economy, and her vision for YouTube as the future of TV. “TV is probably one of the biggest markets, from ads, from subscriptions, from time spent, and if you look at the next generation—they are completely changing the way they watch TV," she said. "They don’t watch the TV as we knew it. They watch … on their mobile phones, in their bedrooms, probably, and it’s completely different.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/ehpfAnp7

Vazquez was a two-time founder in the travel industry, and she came up with a business model that would attempt to capitalize on both of those shifts. She’s now the cofounder of Fora Travel , a gig economy-style platform for travel agents. The travel industry has already been thoroughly disrupted by players like Airbnb, but Vazquez argues that there’s lots of room to grow in the travel agent space; only 2% of hotels worldwide are booked by travel agents and there’s more social media content about travel than ever. • Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., the 116-year-old organization, has more than 1,000 chapters in 11 countries and all 50 U.S. states. But it all started at Howard University with its alpha chapter, back in 1908. At the time of its origination, the organization’s founders were among the fewer than 1,000 Black Americans enrolled at higher education institutions. And since its founding, AKA has been dedicated to civil-rights causes and five basic tenets: high scholastic and ethical standards, unity and friendship, social stature of girls and women, a “progressive interest in college life,” and being of “service to all mankind.” Clarice Redding Louis remembers stopping at a Starbucks and running into some AKA ladies who gave her the spiel about the organization, which has now recently entered the spotlight thanks to one of its most high-profile members, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, who said being an AKA changed her life. “She had the best floor routine of the day and in the Olympics.” After Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade secured gold in the women’s floor exercise final at the Paris Olympics, Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles exemplified sportsmanship by bowing to her feet during the medal ceremony, despite being the silver and bronze medalists. Their actions resonated with fans worldwide and have been praised widely on social media.
