New Releases to Make You Feel Young, Wild and Free

Stream Along for the Ride, Welcome to Eden and more.
    May 6, 2022

Feeling nostalgic? This week’s new releases will make you feel young again — with an edge of teen angst. If you’re down for a late-night adventure, race through the department store aisles with Auden and Eli in Along for the Ride. Starring Emma Pasarow, Belmont Cameli and Kate Bosworth, the coming-of-age film will take you on all the adventures you never went on in high school. For some gossip and relationship drama, dish it out with the Oppenheim Group agents in their first ever Selling Sunset reunion, hosted by Tan France. Season 5 was hot, but the drama in this special episode is scalding as the cast is forced to answer all the questions they’d much rather avoid. On a lighter note, the K-drama The Sound of Magic is your ticket into a whimsical amusement park that puts Disney World to shame. In this musical series, magic isn’t just a sprinkle of fairy dust; it truly comes alive. Spanish drama Welcome to Eden will entice you with flashing party lights and dance beats, but there’s not much to celebrate in this paradise. The only way off the island is to outrun death. To see the rest of this week’s new releases, keep scrolling for the full list.

5/6 Along for the Ride  What it is: Auden (Emma Pasarow) wishes she had more fun in high school instead of being so deep into her studies. To her mother’s dismay, she spends her last summer before college visiting her dad and stepmom in their beach town. A few weeks into her stay, she meets Eli (Belmont Cameli), a mysterious teen who takes her out on nightly quests. As Auden experiences the carefree life she never had, she learns more about Eli’s traumatic past.

Why you should watch it: Auden hopes she can escape her uptight mom by living with her dad for the summer, but she quickly realizes that he’s much too busy to be spending time with anyone. When she meets Eli, Auden’s relieved to finally make a friend who’s not her stepmom. He enjoys spontaneous and mischievous late-night adventures — nothing like her high school experience. As the two teens bond, Auden learns of Eli’s traumatic loss, which explains his mysterious character. For some, Colby is a vacation; for Auden and Eli, it’s a place to grapple with their past traumas and embrace second chances.

Selling Sunset, Season 5 Reunion - New Releases to Make You Feel Young, Wild and Free

Selling Sunset, Season 5 Reunion What it is: In their first ever reunion, the Oppenheim Group agents are back to dish on everything that went down in Season 5. Hosted by Queer Eye fashionista Tan France, this special episode is about to be more dramatic than any broker’s open. No one’s safe in the hot seat as France grills them on everything from workplace breakups to Christine’s infamous departure

Why you should watch it: Can there be drama without the villain? Much like her unforgettable entrances, Christine made her exit from the show known when she didn’t show up to the reunion taping. Don’t worry — emotions are still running high. From Brett breaking down in tears to Davina reading scathing texts from her phone, the reunion special proves that Selling Sunset can still exist without Christine. Tan France doesn’t let anyone off the hook, convincing the agents to spill some of their most shocking revelations yet. You’re going to flip out when Chrishell opens up about her new love interest.

The Sound of Magic - New Releases to Make You Feel Young, Wild and Free
Lim Hyo Sun/Netflix

The Sound of Magic  What it is: Based on the popular webtoon Annarasumanara, this South Korean series combines musical with fantasy. Ah-Yi (Choi Sung-eun) has always wanted to become a magician, but the responsibility to feed her family has forced her to give up on her childhood dream. When she stumbles upon a mysterious magician living in an abandoned amusement park, he shows her the wonder of being a kid.

Why you should watch it: A child meeting up with a grown man in an abandoned park might raise some eyebrows, but this unlikely friendship will pull at your heartstrings. Like Peter Pan, magician Ri Eul (Ji Chang-wook) wants to remain a kid forever. Viewed as an outcast by society, he’s turned an old amusement park into his safe haven where no one can bother him. Ah-Yi, on the other hand, is eager to grow up and run away from adolescence. She can’t focus on school because she’s too busy worrying about rent and food. When their paths collide, the magician and student begin to heal their inner children through performing magic tricks. Ri Eul lights up the park with stardust, confetti and dazzling lights to provide an escape for Ah-Yi. With grand musical numbers, The Sound of Magic is truly a sight to behold. Plus, who doesn’t want Ji Chang-wook to serenade them?

Welcome to Eden - New Releases to Make You Feel Young, Wild and Free
Lucia Faraig/Netflix

Welcome to Eden  What it is: After receiving an anonymous text, Zoa (Amaia Aberasturi) is invited to party on a remote island with other influencers. What they think is about to be the party of their lives turns out to be much more sinister. When Zoa and four other teens wake up the next morning on the deserted island, a mysterious drone leads them to an idyllic commune promising them a sense of belonging. Is this a peaceful retreat or a dangerous trap?

Why you should watch it: The Spanish drama feels like watching a crossover of Euphoria and The Hunger Games. Life on the beach seems like a party, but think twice before you take a bite out of the apple — you never know who’s a snake. Eden advertises itself as a serene island where society functions like a beehive... but these bee stings are lethal. At first, the teens are tempted to stay. There are lush trees surrounding the commune and summer camp–like activities ranging from horseback riding to morning yoga. Plus, plenty of secluded spots to have sex. It’s all a facade, however, as the teens learn that the only way off the island is death. The series also includes other big stars like Spanish-Mexican singer Belinda (aka the real star of The Cheetah Girls 2) and Elite’s Sergio Momo.
