Tired of waiting for a transponder snail to bring you the latest on ONE PIECE Season 2? We’ve got you covered.

In a special video last September, Eiichiro Oda shared with fans how delighted he was that “people around the world have been enjoying the show.” He added that two weeks after the launch, he “received some great news” that Netflix had decided to renew the show for a second season. “The adventures of Iñaki [Godoy] and the live-action Straw Hats will continue onward!”

So while you wait for the return of your favorite Straw Hats, here’s everything we know so far about ONE PIECE Season 2 — which is in production now.

When does ONE PIECE Season 2 start filming?

Now! Gather the nakama. Flying in from all around the world — Mexico, Japan, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas — the Straw Hats are back in South Africa to film ONE PIECE Season 2. Watch Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy), Roronoa Zoro (Mackenyu), Nami (Emily Rudd), Usopp (Jacob Romero), and Sanji (Taz Skylar) reunite on the Going Merry in the video above, as they get ready to sail to the Grand Line.

Can I see a script page from ONE PIECE Season 2?

You sure can! Check out the cover page for Season 2, Episode 1, “The Beginning and The End” above.

What will happen in ONE PIECE Season 2?

In ONE PIECE co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer Matt Owens’ previous conversation with Tudum, he revealed that Dr. Kureha will definitely be part of Season 2. “When the Season 2 writers’ room got together, we knew how far we were going to get and that this character Dr. Kureha was going to be a big part of the season.”

Owens is also eager to introduce viewers to some other fan favorites next season, especially since “Oda told everyone we’ll be meeting Chopper in Season 2.” The Straw Hats are also going to be in the Grand Line — “The place that we were talking about all of Season 1, we’re in it now,” said Owens.

Who is joining the ONE PIECE Season 2 cast?

New cast members for ONE PIECE Season 2 include:

  • Daniel Lasker (Raised by Wolves) as Mr. 9
  • Camrus Johnson (Batwoman) as Mr. 5
  • Jazzara Jaslyn (Warrior) as Miss Valentine
  • David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil) as Mr. 3
  • Werner Coetser (Getroud met rugby) as Dorry
  • Brendan Murray (Raised by Wolves) as Brogy
  • Clive Russell (Game of Thrones) as Crocus

  • Julia Rehwald (Star Wars Young Jedi Adventures) as Tashigi
  • Rob Colletti (The Many Saints of Newark) as Wapol
  • Ty Keogh (24 Hours To Live) as Dalton

Who else is in the ONE PIECE cast?

Godoy stars as Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Rudd as Nami, Romero as Usopp, and Skylar as Sanji. In addition to the Straw Hats, the ONE PIECE cast includes Morgan Davies as Koby, Aidan Scott as Helmeppo, Vincent Regan as Vice Admiral Garp, Langley Kirkwood as Captain “Axe Hand” Morgan, Craig Fairbrass as Zeff, Peter Gadiot as Shanks, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Alvida, Jeff Ward as Buggy the Clown, Alexander Maniatis as Klahadore, McKinley Belcher III as Arlong, Steven Ward as Dracule Mihawk, and Michael Dorman as Gold Roger. Colton Osorio plays Young Luffy, Maximilian Lee Piazza plays Young Zoro, Lily Fisher plays Young Nami, Kevin Saula plays Young Usopp, and Christian Convery plays Young Sanji.

One lovely piece of ONE PIECE casting BTS? Skylar actually got Fairbrass cast as Chef Zeff. “We hadn’t found a Zeff yet as we were auditioning, and Taz came to me one day and he said, ‘I don’t know if this is appropriate or a big swing or whatever, but you guys [should] talk to Craig Fairbrass. I’ve worked with him before, I love him. I think he’d be down.’ So we reached out. Craig read. Craig got the role,” Owens previously said.

What is ONE PIECE about?

The franchise follows young pirate Monkey D. Luffy (Godoy) as he sails across the seas with his Straw Hats gang — swordsman Roronoa Zoro (Mackenyu), cartographer Nami (Rudd), storyteller Usopp (Romero), and chef Sanji (Skylar). Luffy dreams of becoming the King of the Pirates and finding infamous pirate Gold Roger’s (Dorman) mysterious treasure, the One Piece.

The live-action pirate adventure is created in partnership with Shueisha and produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix. For Season 2, Joe Tracz will join Owens as co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer. “Joe has brought a wealth of enthusiasm and experience into our second season that will help take ONE PIECE to new heights,” said Owens. “We’re incredibly lucky to have him as a co-captain of this ship. The best crew on the seas grows larger!”

Tracz has previously worked on the adaptations of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Dash & Lily, A Series of Unfortunate Events. “I’ve been lucky to work on big adaptations of several beloved series and they don’t come bigger or more beloved than ONE PIECE,” said Tracz. “I’m a huge fan of Oda-san’s incredible imagination and I was blown away by what the live-action team created in Season 1. So it’s a dream and a joy to come aboard the Going Merry as it enters the Grand Line for an even more giant Season 2.”

Eiichiro Oda, Marty Adelstein, and Becky Clements executive produce through Tomorrow Studios, along with Tetsu Fujimura, Chris Symes, and Steve Maeda.

Just how big was ONE PIECE Season 1?

ONE PIECE was the No. 1 title globally on Netflix with over 37.8 million views amassed in less than two weeks since its release. The series reached the Top 10 in 93 countries and debuted at No. 1 in 46. Certified Fresh with a 96% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes from 10,000+ ratings, it’s among Netflix’s highest audiences scores ever. A social media sensation with more than 4 billion search impressions for #onepiecenetflix on TikTok alone, ONE PIECE continues to generate buzz and trend globally across social platforms. Talent Instagram followings have soared, adding millions of followers over the last several months. “It still hasn’t entirely set in,” Owens told Tudum last fall.

When is Luffy’s birthday?

Monkey D. Luffy’s big day falls on May 5. “Luffy, thank you so much for everything that you have done for me and many others around the world,” says Godoy in the video above, as he celebrates with a birthday cake that resembles a melting candle. “You make us happy, you inspire us to follow our dreams and you’re just the coolest pirate captain ever. I am so happy to be a part of your journey. Feliz cumpleaños, Luffy!” Pay attention to that cake for your next Season 2 clue.

How does ONE PIECE celebrate April Fools’ Day?

By wishing Usopp a happy birthday, of course! Make the Straw Hats’ marksman’s birthday wishes come true and watch him in the videos below.

How did ONE PIECE Season 1 end?

This article contains major character or plot details.

When we last see the Straw Hats, Luffy receives news that he has the highest bounty on his head out of anyone in the East Blue. His victory over the Arlong Pirates finally makes him a real pirate, but that also means that he and his friends are in great danger. Leaving the East Blue behind, they’re off to conquer the Grand Line to continue their search for the One Piece.

In the final moments of Season 1, we see a mysterious figure with white hair, brown gloves, and two cigars in hand burning Luffy’s wanted poster. Something tells us there’s even more danger ahead. “It’ll still take a while to get the scripts ready, so please be patient,” Oda continued in his video message. “From here on, it seems to me the Straw Hats will need a great doctor … We will see!”
