After the Storm

Barnsdall, Oklahoma: The Millers sit in the trunk of their car amid the remains of their neighborhood in northeast Oklahoma, which was leveled by a tornado on May 7. The EF3 twister—rated for “severe damage”—claimed one life and destroyed dozens of homes in the 1,000-strong community. The same week, at least two people were killed in Tennessee and one person died in North Carolina, with injuries reported in Alabama and Michigan, as tornadoes and storms swept through several states.
