Caitlin Clark Becomes First Ever Rookie To Record Incredible WNBA Stat

The records keep on coming for Indiana Fever first-year point guard Caitlin Clark. Clark became the first-ever rookie in the history of the WNBA to record a triple-double. Clark recorded the triple-double against the New York Liberty on Saturday.

Her incredible rookie season continues to show why Indiana selected the 6-foot Iowa product with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

Clark has been making all sorts of WNBA records throughout her early career but this has to be the most special. Doing something that nobody else has ever done at this stage is an incredible moment for the rookie and shows she is learning how the professional game is played. It took a little while for Clark to fully transition to the speed of the WNBA, but she has done so while dominating the competition.

She recorded the triple-double with this rebound in the fourth quarter of the Fever's matchup with the Liberty. The Fever trailed for much of the game but behind the stong effort of Clark, they fought back in the fourth to grab the win. The final score was 83-78, while Clark finished with a stat line of 19 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds.

Clark has taken the WNBA by storm this season, earning a spot on the WNBA All-Star team in his first season. She has kept her focus on the basketball side of things despite all of the outside noise that has surrounded her. While Clark isn't the only reason for the intense rise in popularity of women's basketball, she can be credited with helping grow the game immensely. She is arguably the most hyped player to ever enter the WNBA after dominating in college. While at the University of Iowa, Clark led the Haweyes to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA title game in 2023 and 2024. The Hawkeyes lost both times, but the legacy that Clark left on Iowa and college basketball has never been seen before.

Some in the WNBA haven't been fans of the hype around Clark early on, indicating that she hasn't earned her keep in the league yet.
