Video: Stephen Colbert Returns From Two-week Holiday to See Donald Trump Set 'A New Personal Best at Being the Worst'

Host of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert, marked his return from a two-week break by taking a swipe at the tweets of President Donald Trump.

Colbert did not have to delve far back into the two weeks he was away to find something that outraged him, referring to Trump's tweets over the weekend aimed at the four freshman Democratic congresswomen, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib.

"There were some big stories while we were gone. The sun rose in the East, a bear relieved itself in the woods, Donald Trump was racist," Colbert said. "And this wasn't just any run-of-the-mill, this was a humdinger. A new personal best at being the worst."

Describing Trump's messages to the group known as "The Squad," as a "steaming pile of tweets," Colbert quipped "of course, Trump does not like the Squad. He is the leader of the rival gang the Klan."

Colbert read out the now often quoted tweet of "why don't they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came?"

The CBS host then surmised, "If that strikes you as a little racist, you don't know the meaning of the word 'little.'"

Describing Trump's quote as a "burrito of wrongness" he goes on to question "what does he mean, they're telling our government how it needs to be run. They're in Congress, they are our government."

He explained how Omar was born in Somalia, while the other three congresswomen were born in the U.S., adding "here's the point. Who cares?"

"It is insulting to these women to even have to defend them from these racist accusations and that's the problem. Even touching on Trump's obvious racism gets it on you, also, a fair amount of bronze," he quipped.

The four women told reporters on Monday that they urged the U.S. people "not to take the bait" of Trump's tweets which they described as "blatantly racist," and renewed their calls for his impeachment.

"This is simply a disruption and a distraction from the callous chaos and corrupt culture of this administration, all the way down," Pressley said.

Tlaib said: "Sadly, this is not the first nor will it be the last time we hear disgusting, bigoted language from the president. We know this is who he is."

Trump responded to the comments by the congresswomen by tweeting: "The Dems were trying to distance themselves from the four 'progressives,' but now they are forced to embrace them. That means they are endorsing Socialism, hate of Israel and the USA! Not good for the Democrats!"
