Man on Dating App Questions Woman's Unique Skill, Her Reply Is Priceless

The highs and lows of dating are well documented, and one woman told Newsweek about her ultimate response to a man who accused her of lying on her dating profile.

Fi Rooney, 32, is originally from Ireland but living in the U.K., and like millions around the world, uses a dating app.

But, as is also well-documented, sometimes you don't get along with everyone you meet on the apps, and one man introduced himself by accusing her of lying about a talent she had.

And as she told Newsweek: "The way he worded it just made me go 'Hold my drink,' and need to post it on TikTok."

In a video shared to her account @therealfifilaroux on July 2, which has racked up over 142,000 views, she first shared a screen grab of the message response to her saying: "I Can Hula Hoop On My Nose."

The potential date wrote that he didn't believe her, as "your nose is too proportionately sized and the piercing would cause unwanted friction, as well as possible soreness."

It moves on to show a video of Rooney, flicking her hair back, and proceeding to expertly swing a hula hoop around her nose, before throwing her arms up to the camera as if to say: "And what?"

Rooney's video had a huge response, with 10,000 likes in just a few days, one commenter writing: "Knew we were in for a treat with the way you flicked your hair back."

"You're chuffin' brilliant," another laughed, with one declaring they were "very genuinely impressed."

And one asked the burning question: "Did you send this to him."

She told Newsweek she didn't match with the man who prompted the viral video, as he "wasn't really my type or what I was looking for," but found the reaction to her clip "so lovely and wholesome."

"Dating in your 30s can be a little daunting, especially with the apps, so I like that I could bring a little bit of fun into it and help make people smile a little," she said.

In the U.S. alone, the revenue of the online dating industry is estimated to be $1.35 billion, according to Statista. In 2022, there were over 57 million people using the apps.

As for how she discovered her unusual talent, Rooney revealed she has trained as a circus performer specializing in hooping and aerial, and previously worked as a full-time performer and entertainer before being hit by chronic illness.

"I still perform and produce a festival back in Ireland but I'm not sure my body will ever allow me to go full-time again," she said, but added she now works in a fun office environment.

"Learning how to hoop on my nose was realizing you can pretty much hoop on most parts of your body that the hoop can touch all sides on," Rooney explained.

"So, paired with the power of my ADHD hyper-focus, I just tried and tried until I could do it. And then I worked from getting it to my neck to my nose and can even do it when it's on fire."

It's not something she brings out as a party trick however, as she joked she's currently "more partial to the mini bike."
