Donald Trump's Potential AG Warns of 'Consequences' For Jack Smith

A lawyer previously tipped to be attorney general under a Donald Trump presidency has promised revenge on Trump's prosecutors.

Attorney Mike Davis vowed "severe" legal, political and financial consequences" for Democratic Party prosecutors, witnesses and judges for alleged persecution of Trump and his co-defendants.

Speaking on the YouTube channel of conservative commentator Benny Johnson, Davis singled out the prosecution of Trump and his valet, Walt Nauta for allegedly hiding classified documents in Trump's Florida estate.

The case is led by prosecutor Jack Smith, who is the special counsel in charge of all of Trump's federal cases.

The former president is facing 40 federal charges over his handling of sensitive materials retrieved from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, after leaving the White House in January 2021. He is accused of obstructing efforts by federal authorities to return them. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Newsweek has contacted Trump and Nauta's attorneys via email for comment on Monday.

Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira, a Mar-a-Lago maintenance worker, are accused of moving boxes of sensitive materials around Trump's Florida home to prevent federal agents from finding them and conspiring to delete security footage that had been sought under a subpoena. Both deny the charges.

Newsweek sought email comment from Davis and from Trump's attorney on Monday.

In the Johnson interview, Davis also mentioned the indictment of Trump and 18 co-accused in Georgia for alleged fraud during the 2020 presidential election. Trump also denies any wrongdoing in this case.

"This is a criminal conspiracy by these Democrat prosecutors, these Democrats judges, these Democrat witnesses, these Democrat operatives. This is a criminal conspiracy to violate President Trump's civil rights; the civil rights of Walt Nauta and the civil rights of [Trump's] 18 co-defendants down in Georgia," Davis told Johnson.

"And guess what guys? There are going to be severe legal, political and financial consequences. We are not going to turn the other cheek, they can go to hell," he added.

Davis has been tipped to be Attorney General if Trump is elected president. He is president of the conservative group Article III Project that supports conservative judges.

In April, Davis told Johnson that he would introduce a "reign of terror" on Trump's prosecutors if appointed Attorney General.

"During my three-week reign of terror as Trump acting Attorney General, before I get chased out of town with my Trump pardon, I will reign hell on Washington, D.C.," he said.

After the Biden Administration posted the clip on X, formerly Twitter, Davis wrote on X that he is "not going to serve as AG" and "can't get confirmed."
