Sweet Moment Girl Casually Forgets There's an Actual Puppy in Her Arms

For most of us, getting to hold a tiny puppy would be a memorable moment and there's no chance we'd let it slip our minds. But not one toddler, who has left the internet in hysterics as she casually forgot there was a 6-week-old puppy in her arms.

Being around puppies is routine for Savannah, 2, whose grandma, Marianne Hess runs a dog breeding business, Destination Doodles. Hess, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, tells Newsweek that there have been litters of puppies running around since before Savannah was born, so she is very comfortable around them and "super careful" with each one.

As is the way when we're so used to something, we often forget it's even there. So, while cradling a puppy with one arm, Savannah picked up a ball with the other hand and completely forgot about the adorable animal she was holding.

Hess, along with Savannah's mom, Whitney Searle, tried asking Savannah what she was holding in her hands, and there was only one answer on her mind: a ball.

"I was taking the video to just catch a candid moment, but Savannah surprised me when she said she just had the ball in her hand," Hess said. "I asked about her other hand and was expecting her to say the puppy, but it caught me off guard when she said there was nothing in her hand.

"I did point out the puppy to her in the end, but as her response shows, she knew the whole time she was holding the puppy across her arm, just not in her hands. She was totally right."

Hess loves it when her grandchildren stop by to see the puppies, which is almost daily.

For some, puppies and children sounds like a dream combination, but pet food brand Purina highlights how important it is to teach children that they must be gentle with animals. Dogs may look like sweet cuddly toys, but children must learn that they're living, breathing creatures who can get scared and uncomfortable.

If children can be calm and loving with animals from an early age, they can reap many benefits from that. Purina notes that it teaches them responsibility, it increases their empathy and shows them the cycle of life, as well as providing ample opportunities for exercise and activities.

How Did TikTok React?

The adorable clip of Savannah was shared on TikTok (@destinationdoodles) on July 6, and it's delighted social media users and left many in stitches. In just a matter of days, the video has gained more than 828,600 views and 46,000 likes on TikTok.

Hess thought the video would generate a couple of laughs online, but never did she imagine it would go viral and be seen by so many people around the world. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and people can't get enough of Savannah's nonchalance while holding a real puppy.

"I just wanted it for our puppy families and friends to see, but I had no idea so many people would see, and even share it," Hess told Newsweek.

"It makes us so happy to know that so many people have seen it and it's made their day like it did ours. What's better than a sweet child and a precious puppy, right?"

With over 290 comments on the viral TikTok post already, many social media users have lauded the toddler for her very literal response. One comment reads: "It's on her arm like a purse! The hand is free."

Another TikToker responded: "She's a literal thinker!"

While another person joked: "I'm going to be like Savannah next time I bring a dog home."
