Ice Cream Products Recalled Nationwide Over Contamination Fears

A major ice cream manufacturer has recalled dozens of products due to concerns they may cause food poisoning.

Maryland-based Totally Cool Inc. has announced a voluntary nationwide recall of several ice cream products due to concerns over potential contamination with the listeria monocytogenes bacterium. The issue was picked up during testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Listeria monocytogenes is a harmful bacterium that can cause severe and sometimes fatal food poisoning infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
