Bye Strawberry Aesthetic—Summer's Now All About 'Pomegranate Girl Makeup'

From tomato girl makeup and glazed donut skin to blueberry milk nails, beauty trends have long been linked to a foodie counterpart. Now, there's a new number one. This summer, it's all about the pomegranate girl.

A quick scroll through TikTok and Instagram brings up video after video of young women embracing the trend, adding washes of red to their makeup routine for the perfect flush of color.

As with the food-inspired trends that came before, the pomegranate girl trend takes inspiration from celebrity culture.

Beauty content creator Megan Penney explained to Newsweek, "These trends are normally inspired by celebrities—I feel like Hailey Bieber has really been the starter of it all since the strawberry girl trend went viral. These trends are popping up all the time and I love it. It's fun to play with makeup and be experimental!"

What Is the Pomegranate Girl trend?

Much like its predecessors, the pomegranate girl takes her color palette inspiration from fruit, similar to last year's strawberry and tomato girl makeup trends. The trend uses pomegranate as its reference point, a sweet, tart fruit that holds deep red "jewels," or juicy seeds, inside its thick skin.

Taking the color palette seen in the fruit, makeup lovers are using shades inspired by pomegranate to bring flushes of color to the skin and lips, combining this element with other beauty trends to bring the pomegranate girl to life.

How to Get the Pomegranate Girl Look

There are three key elements to channeling the pomegranate girl: skin, blush, and freckles.

"The 'pomegranate girl' trend is a clean, glowy, glass skin base which lets natural features shine through," Penney said. "You can then top it with a deep red pomegranate shade blush—I would suggest liquid blush for it so you can really melt the product into the skin."

When it comes to knowing where to place your blush, Penney recommends, " Add the blush all over your cheek area, and then also over the nose. A nose and cheek blush look is so cute and brightens up the whole face for a flushed, glowy, sun-kissed vibe."

While you may think this trend sounds no different from those of previous summers, the pomegranate girl includes a small detail often overlooked by strawberry and tomato girls: faux freckles.

"Freckles are the key part of this trend, so pop those all over the blushed area, across and around the nose," Penney said.

Faux freckles can be created in a number of ways, from specialist products like the one used by Rudi Berry (@rudiberry) in her interpretation of the trend (above), or making the most of products you already have at home.

To create a cohesive look, Penney recommends using your blush shade for a surprising step.

"I also use the same blush shade dabbed on the lips just to bring that flush of color and bring it all together," she said.
