Tiffany Trump Wears Suffragette White at State of the Union Like Nancy Pelosi and Democrats, Instead of Black Like Ivanka and Melania

President Donald Trump's youngest daughter Tiffany Trump found herself in the spotlight on social media Tuesday night during her father's State of the Union address—for matching her attire with Democrats and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi instead of the Trump family women.

Tiffany Trump wore a long-sleeved blouse and long skirt in solid white, the color that the House Democratic Women's Working Group announced they would don to the address to show solidarity for women's suffrage. Pelosi wore a white pant suit with red and blue accessories. Tiffany Trump's sister Ivanka Trump wore a mostly black suit with a streak of red along the sides, while first lady Melania Trump chose a long, military-inspired black coat.

It is unclear whether Tiffany Trump purposefully dressed against the grain of her family, but the plan for Democrats to wear suffragette white was publicized before the president's speech.

The women's working group chair, Florida Representative Lois Frankel, tweeted a photo of members all in white and holding hands a couple hours before the address.

"Standing hand in hand with @HouseDemWomen wearing #Suffragette white to #SOTU as we fight #ForThePeople," Frankel tweeted.

Hours earlier, Frankel tweeted: "At State of the Union tonight, @realDonaldTrump will look out at the House Chamber and see a sea of #Suffragette white sending the message loud&clear that @HouseDemWomen are fighting for the economic security of women & families."

Tiffany Trump is not the first member of her family to make a controversial clothing selection.

Melania Trump wore a white pant suit to her husband's first State of the Union last year and sparked comparisons to her husband's presidential election opponent Hillary Clinton. Former Secretary of State Clinton has worn variations of the white pant suit to major events, including the day she became the first woman to win the nomination for president from a major political party.

Ousted White House chief strategist Steve Bannon reportedly made a comment about the first lady's suit last year as she walked into the House chamber, suggesting he viewed it as a slight against the president.

"She's wearing suffragette white. Suck on that," Bannon said, according to Bloomberg columnist Michael Lewis, who saw the address with him.

Tiffany Trump has a track record of appearing to rebel against her father—at least more often than other members of the family. She celebrated LGBT Pride Month at a photo booth with friends in New York City last June while her father failed to acknowledge the observance.

A Georgetown Law student, Tiffany Trump makes fewer appearances at her father's events than her siblings. Her father, during a speech in Ohio last March, complimented Ivanka Trump and afterward, mentioned Tiffany Trump seemingly as an afterthought.
