Uber drivers pick up an endless stream of customers in a day, many of them indistinguishable riders with whom they might engage in small talk.

The two men exchanged the regular niceties of a cab ride and made menial conversation about the weather and how busy the day ahead was.
After a few moments in transit, the passenger, John, realized he knew his driver. Danny shared the heartwarming footage captured by his dashcam on TikTok, which has amassed 1.7 million likes and 8.6 million views so far.

Danny from Dallas, Texas, said on TikTok: "When you're driving Uber, pick up a passenger, and realize it's an old friend you haven't seen in 20+ years."
The footage from January shows both the men bundled up to face the winter cold. At first, Danny greets the rider, and they discuss the sunny conditions.
After that, John asked his driver how his day was going, and Danny shared that Fridays are always busy for him. John asked his driver what his name was—and then the penny dropped.
John says on camera: "Man I know you! You don't know me?"
Danny turns around and looks at the rider in the face and both of their faces light up in jubilation as John laughs.
The driver shakes his old pal's hand and says: "What the f****?"

Commenters were invested in the reunion that played out on camera.
"This cut too quick! I wanted to live that moment with yall," one TikTok user said.
"I need to see more footage," wrote a commenter named Desi.
Danny responded, saying that he had to cut and edit a lot out because it included personal information between two old friends catching up. He also explained that John is a quiet person who keeps himself to himself, but he is excited to meet up with him to show the reaction to their reunion.
A TikToker named Cyd commented: "He sounded so sad when he thought he didn't remember him. I'm so glad he got so excited when he realized."
Others shared their surreal similar experiences.
"Had a similar situation recently, my friend's dad who is like a second dad to me does DoorDash delivery and I ordered from a restaurant that partners with DoorDash...." one user wrote.
They explained that they didn't know who the delivery driver was since his girlfriend made the order and he usually does contact delivery, but the driver kept knocking on the door.
"When I answered my door I was surprised to see it was my friends dad who I don't see as often as I used to," they wrote.
