Peter Bradshaw Guardian No other later horror film captured so well the strangeness of living through a long night of evil and emerging into bright sunlight, with its tacit promise of restorative justice or virtue, or just normality. Rated: 5/5 Jun 13, 2024 Full Review Linda Gross Los Angeles Times A despicable film about five young people traveling through the desolate flatlands of Texas who seek refuge in a mansion... Craziness handled without sensitivity is a degrading, senseless, misuse of film and time. Sep 14, 2022 Full Review Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com This movie is nothing but an exercise in tension. Grotesque, looming, filthy tension -- and on that count, the film works extremely well. Rated: A- Oct 9, 2020 Full Review Chase Hutchinson The Stranger (Seattle, WA) All modern movies owe a debt to the late Tobe Hooper’s grimy, gruesome, and ultimately graceful gem of a horror film. Not only did it carve out its place in the slasher canon, but genre cinema itself will forever live in the shadow it still casts. Jul 25, 2024 Full Review Mike Thorn Vague Visages Under its brutal dissembling of anthropocentrism and customary moral divides, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre points to the terror of a harsh and uncaring universe. Dec 12, 2023 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand Along with 'Night of the Living Dead' and 'The Last House on the Left', it ushered in the modern age of horror in the 1970s. It is one of the great transgressive American horrors and is still the film upon which Hooper's reputation is built. Oct 27, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Thomas TCM is the ultimate big screen horror movie experience Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/07/23 Full Review 03 Cobra An all-time classic that was great to see in theaters for the first time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/02/23 Full Review Ernest B Start to finish, the perfect horror movie. Not a drop of fake blood nor a frame of film wasted. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review Shannon S It's an awesome feeling to watch this grindhouse classic 50 years after it had already been released. Although an old watch, I feel elements of the film still held up and feel way less sterile then most horror movies made today. Some of the big scenes that were meant to be scary (such as the kills scenes) were underwhelming. Most likely due to the lofi/amateur like approach to this film. But the eeriness of some characters and the drawn out pacing of certain sequences left you on the edge of your seat with feelings of impending doom and paranoia. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/05/24 Full Review Teddy B The cheapness of the film is utilised beautifully towards creating a terrifying atmosphere in which the audience is as helpless as the characters. One surprising thing about this deserved classic is Tobe Hooper's appealing eye for cinematography and framing. Leagues above your usual exploitation film and an inspiring lesson of how to use a tiny budget to your advantage. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/04/24 Full Review matthias s If you’re into horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a classic you can't ignore. It’s a wild, gritty ride that still holds up in many ways. The film does a fantastic job of creating a raw and unsettling atmosphere. The use of practical effects and grainy visuals really adds to the creepiness. Leatherface is as terrifying as ever, with his chainsaw revving up the tension. Some scenes are so intense they made me feel sick, but that just adds to the horror experience. The plot is pretty straightforward and doesn’t have many twists, which can feel a bit predictable if you’ve seen other slashers. Some parts drag a little, but the intense, claustrophobic scenes make up for it. The acting is decent, considering the budget constraints. Overall, it’s a solid horror flick that paved the way for the genre. After watching it, I definitely want to check out the entire franchise!
