Hannibal

What to Know

Critics Consensus

While superbly acted and stylishly filmed, Hannibal lacks the character interaction between the two leads which made the first movie so engrossing.

Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal All of this opulence, together with extravagant set-pieces that go past grisly to grotesque (and then, in the climax, on to goony), can't compensate for the halting pace of a patchy script. Jul 15, 2023 Full Review David Ansen Newsweek Hannibal doesn't seem to be about anything but its own swank decadence. Hopkins, with his reedy voice and effete airs, is still quite delicious in the part that won him an Oscar. But 10 years later, Lecter has become more camp than terrifying. Mar 6, 2018 Full Review Paul Tatara CNN.com No tension, no rhythm and no sense of purpose ... unless you count helping "Faces of Death" fans feel more evolved. Feb 5, 2018 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Hopkins turns up the hamminess, as though his entire performance is rooted in the same instinct that inspired him to slither after his famous Chianti speech. Rated: 2/4 Feb 17, 2022 Full Review Tony Black Cultural Conversation Classy yet sleazy carnival horror. Rated: 3/5 Feb 14, 2021 Full Review C.H. Newell Father Son Holy Gore Scott does justice to The Silence of the Lambs and the character of Hannibal in general, even without a few key pieces, and despite toning Harris's novel down plenty. Rami A This sequel felt very disconnected from the original, and that's a huge shame since the original was so good. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/01/24 Full Review Kevin S While Jodie Foster did not return and a new random Lector victim was introduced, Hannibal holds as a worthy must see. Especially if you're a fan of Silence of the Lambs and the horror genres. The pacing and visuals of juggernaut Ridley Scott provides a genuine experience filled with suspense, mystery, and fright. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/25/24 Full Review Salvador Z This movie was a mistake. When compared to the brilliant and captivating Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal feels like it belongs in a completely different franchise. I was very bothered that Jodie Foster didn’t play Clarice but I don’t blame her for not wanting to do it. For a movie called Hannibal he actually isn’t in it a whole lot. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/24/24 Full Review Victoria K Hannibal is something beyond the universe scale. Ridley Scott, the film-maker of this film, is probably brilliant, because I don't see any other reason to create such a masterpiece and it's directly worthy of an Oscar. It's unfair that Margot and Jack were not added to the film, I think they are important characters, and the end was modified, but it didn't make the film worse. At the same time, I am glad that other parts of the book were not removed and began to meet them completely. I am sincerely grateful for this. Anthony Hopkins in the lead role will remain for the best Hannibal Lecter, these emotions and his facial expression, which conveyed the whole essence of the character, are breathtaking. I have to admit, the set and the various locations are fascinating, I think it was difficult to transport equipment all over Italy, but the change of these places is just an gripping sight, each place, stage, as a work of art, and not just part of the script. Ah, this sociable character of Clarissa, I was afraid that she would be portrayed as a naive girl, but in fact, the actress's performance turned out to be exciting. And the whole cast is just the best.) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review babarizam D Julianne more is a great actress but that role wasn't for her. It was a shame that Jodi Foster refused to play the part again. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review Read all reviews
