Audience Member If you enjoy highland renaissance films and romance look no further. This movie delivers on every aspect. The cast is perfect in every way and extremely well suited for their roles. Mysterious circumstances surround our Heroine Lorna Doone (Amelia Warner)whose beauty truly is unsurpassed. Amelia evokes a humble innocence that suits her character extremely well. The chemistry between the main characters also work together beautifully ;although I wish there had been more exchanges between them. The battle scenes and Villains carry an air of ruthlessness that makes the conflict not only believable but also keeps viewers in suspense. The picturesque landscapes, cottages and costumes transport anyone into a medieval dreamscape we wont want to leave. Its a movie I could watch indefinitely several times over. Just an enjoyable romance and Renaissance tale all in all. Its the whole package for me! I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was entertaining but not unbelievable. The acting was great and one feels complete sympathy towards John Ridd's plight. Carver and other Doone's are terrible right from the beginning and remain so throughout the movie, yet one can feel some sympathy towards the fact that they lost the land that was rightfully theirs, though that does not redeem them from their crimes. Lorna was compelling throughout, and her continuous refusal of Carver was brave. The fight scenes were enjoyable but not filled with gore and the romance was not overdone. Overall this is one period movie I truly enjoyed to watch.
