Critics Consensus

Though the earlier part of the movie suggested something more, the movie turns out to be nothing more than a schmaltzy romance.

Kim Newman Empire Magazine Call an ambulance. This mess is in need of a bodybag. Rated: 1/5 Dec 30, 2006 Full Review Geoff Andrew Time Out Lopez is fairly convincing as a tough cookie by day and a lonesome soft-centre by night, but despite their best efforts, neither she nor Caviezel can fight free of the turgid script. Feb 9, 2006 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com If they had, they mat have noticed that Angel Eyes isn't a thriller at all, and that the fabled 'twist' ending is only a twist to those that missed the opening twenty minutes of the movie. Rated: 2/4 Jun 19, 2003 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com A muddled film, part supernatural, part romantic drama, part urban thriller and not satisfying on any level. Rated: C- May 4, 2011 Full Review Michael Dequina TheMovieReport.com Lopez is now such a multimedia icon that it's easy to forget that her acting skills are what earned her first major notice. Oppothumbs M This has a very hoking screenplay. I don't like Jenny on the Block's music. But her acting is great and more importantly, feels real. I love this, and I don't like schmaltz. It has suspense throughout if you can just suspend yourself from being critical. Go with the goofy and feel the tenderness of Warren Zevon's Tenderness on the Block channeled through Jenny. I might have teared up at times; never though of listening to Lopez's music, though! Movie reminds me of The Impression's "I'm so Proud". Another pretty good movie with her is "Enough". Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/04/24 Full Review Greg H I watched this movie when it first came out because Roger Ebert wouldn't shut up about how amazing it was. I remember him talking about the incredible performance that Jennifer Lopez put out for it as well. Anyways, on a slow week I watch probably 2 new movies. On a good week probably 5ish and I will never forget Angel Eyes. Of the thousands of movies I've seen in my life. This pile of garbage was probably the stupidest movie I've ever seen. Anyone that was involved should be forced to write apology letters to the audience for all of it. There wasn't a scene. An idea. A performance. Even a thought, that this movie did well. I'm always confused when I see such a poor movie. They went through the entire process of making this and hat to sit down and watch their work. And then sign off on it. Rotten tomatoes really needs to have a zero score option thanks to complete bombs like this. Also, I know he's dead now. But, I'll never forgive Roger Ebert for this. I wouldn't have watched it if he didn't give such an review. He could have just said he had a crush on Jennifer Lopez instead of giving two thumbs up and 5 stars to every piece of garbage she was involved in. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/15/24 Full Review Angelo C This proves critics don't watch a movie like the regular audience watches a movie. Great acting and a great story. It was beautiful and moved me to tears. It wasn't supposed to be nothing more than a love story, don't make it anything else. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/24 Full Review A.L.Jude P Real memorable movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/24 Full Review Chi F I love this film and the actor's performances are very natural and true. I really believe this is Jennifer Lopez's best work to date and Jim Caviezel is superior as well. All the actors in this film are excellent. Rotten Tomatoes summary of criticism says, "Though the earlier part of the movie suggested something more, the movie turns out to be nothing more than a schmaltzy romance." Is a movie turning out be a sentimental romance something the critics can't handle?--Geez! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/22/23 Full Review David J Rotten tomatoes gives a 35% rating to this movie. I disagree it's a fantastic movie, script and cast. Out of 10 it's easily a 9 or 10. But what do I know? I thought Leaving Las Vegas is a love story.
