Critics Consensus

Despite fine work by an appealing cast, It's Complicated is predictable romantic comedy fare, going for broad laughs instead of subtlety and nuance.

Ed Koch The Atlantic The movie won't take you to the top of the mountain or leave you with memories and references for discussion, but you won't be bored if you see it. Without compromising my standards, I can give this film an unqualified plus. Jan 16, 2018 Full Review Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online It's [writer/director Nancy Meyers'] typical, though smart, romantic comedy for a more mature audience. But, unlike Something's Gotta Give, there are no Oprah-like a-ha moments, which made it really quite unspecial and fall sorta flat. J Nancy Myers has a few really fun movies and while this one wasn't as good as Something's Gotta Give, I still thought it had some funny moments. Krasinski was the best part for me, but overall I would say it was pretty good. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Hilife Health Care r Yes, Meh, it passed the time. I was not impressed with this Nancy Meyers effort, like I was with "the intern". It was simply a Meh movie, not great, not horrible. Got time to waste, watch it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/06/24 Full Review Hannah T This is my favorite movie and my go to to watch when I'm down. Funny and easy to watch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/29/23 Full Review matthias s "It's Complicated" is a heartwarming and hilarious romantic comedy that explores the complexities of love, relationships, and life's unexpected twists. Meryl Streep shines as Jane, a successful bakery owner entangled in a love triangle with her architect suitor, played by Steve Martin, and her ex-husband, portrayed by Alec Baldwin. The film takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, with witty banter, relatable drama, and laugh-out-loud moments. Set against the backdrop of a picturesque bakery and stunning scenery, the movie captures the challenges and joys of middle-aged romance. With its charming characters and delightful storyline, "It's Complicated" is a feel-good movie that entertains and leaves you reflecting on the intricate nature of relationships and love. Also, John Krasinski steals every scene he is in. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/11/23 Full Review Koi P If uncomplicated, this would be a sweet and funny love story -- but it's complicated. After reading the reviews, I watched this movie with low expections. I was pleasantly surprised. The emotions are real and complex. The characters (main and supportive) are enjoyable and personable. There are no easy answers in relationships, family, and love. It left me feeling happy and sad. The cast is phenominal. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/23/23 Full Review Cowni F The best thing about this was Meryl Streep's kitchen. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
