Critics Consensus

Energetic but empty, 12 Rounds' preposterous plot hurtles along at a rapid pace, but can't disguise the derivative script.

Drew Toal Time Out Rated: 2/5 Nov 18, 2011 Full Review Rob Nelson Variety Heavy on stunts but light on plausibility, humor, surprise, visual ingenuity or psychological depth. Sep 1, 2009 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard Apart from the palpably improbable storyline, Harlan shows a massive disregard for characterisation, and so much bang-bang editing that you scarcely know where you are. Cive L I loved it and did not expect to. I am a fan of 80s and 90s action movies and this reminds me of these so much with the shitty dialogue and uptight feds. Cena does most of his own stunts and the car chases are not CGI. Turn off your brain and enjoy it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/12/24 Full Review Valentine P Not bad but didn't catch my interest. Overall an okay movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/01/24 Full Review Audience Member Better than you think, but still just another action flick to pop on before you sleep. Still, love John Cena in this! The story and “games” played are actually interesting but the ending is whatever. Just suspend your belief and it’s fine, this is during the Super Cena era so of course he’ll do ridiculous stuff here. I mean really, Really, REALLY BAD! Stunts were not believable (especially the street car scene), bad acting with meathead characters. But the worst part was the plot. Very perdictable and unoriginal. I was able to stay ahead of officer idiot (John Cena) because I have seen 2 movies. This crappy film is a really lame mix of them. Speed meets Die Hard With a Vengence. Pretty lazy effort on everyone's part. I would give a lower rating if I could. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/06/23 Full Review Regal R 75/100 - worth a watch through. takes you back to a different time. its interesting to see how cenas acting has changed over the years and how differently and politically charged films are today compared to even 10 years ago. films used to just be films, now theyre scripts for a political agenda. sad tbh.
