What to Know

Critics Consensus

Roland Emmerich's 2012 provides plenty of visual thrills, but lacks a strong enough script to support its massive scope and inflated length.

Rated: B Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Everything you’re expecting from 2012 is exactly what you’re going to get…Utterly impossible by any stretch of the imagination, the movie is a cheesy, one-dimensional, epic-sized spectacle that does exactly what it promises to—destroy the Earth. Rated: 3/4 Sep 5, 2023 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz If you put your brain in neutral, you can enjoy an unprecedented scale of beautifully rendered destruction and learn that science isn't an exact science. Rated: 3/5 May 24, 2023 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies A good disaster thriller must contain both thrills and massive destruction--2012 has both in great quantity. Theodore H I was a bit disappointed by this movie. The movie did get better in the second half but just couldn’t quite make up for it’s fallacies. The acting was not awful but some characters seemed poorly written and some scenes were quite hard to watch. There were so many scenes that just made me scream WHY? Like why did some of the characters die when it was totally feasible to save them. Also so many characters had the instincts of a side character in a horror movie. The special effects were honestly the deal breaker for me. I don’t have a problem with bad of lack of special effects but these seemed so unbelievable and cgi’d to the point where it just killed the scene (I get that this movie was made in 2009 but cmon? It’s been done before?). It wasn’t the worst movie I’ve seen but it felt like a cheap stab to try and recreate The Day After Tomorrow, which in my opinion had better characters, writing, and effects. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/07/24 Full Review Allan R Filme deplorável facilmente um dos piores filmes já feito Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/06/24 Full Review King O Quite possibly the best apocalyptic movie ever made. Shows humanity at its worst and finest. 2012 has action drama love redemption morality all tied in like a nicely woven fabric. Definitely a must see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/26/24 Full Review June P The visual style of the movie is great but there are some disturbing parts in the movie. Personally, the humour in the movie was awful.
