An intelligent and well-acted film despite the usual Spike Lee excesses.

Joshua Rothkopf In These Times Spike Lee's latest-his 20th feature including TV work-is at long last the raging masterpiece many have suspected him capable of. 25th Hour eclipses everything he's done before, including Do the Right Thing... Mar 16, 2020 Full Review Barbara Ellen Times (UK) It's an odd movie, maybe odder than it should have been if this is Lee's attempt to make a more widely accessible, less issue-based movie. Rated: A Sep 12, 2017 Full Review Diana Tuova Spotlight on Film What would have been a simple story with meandering dialogues is strangely transformed into something special and profound, largely due to some interesting directional choices, powerful imagery, Norton’s commitment, and...a beautiful score. Rated: 4.5/5 Aug 9, 2024 Full Review Eve Tushnet Patheos There’s a clunkiness to the rant montage, and yet it is also so heartfelt, so loving. Jul 31, 2023 Full Review Taylor Baker Drink in the Movies It seems Spike has the most to say with his camera when he has the least to do with the screenplay. Audience Member Turned it off after 15 minutes Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/02/24 Full Review Alec C How would you spend your last few hours of freedom? Monty Brogan is about to go to jail for a long time, so he spends his remaining freedom with his friends, reflecting on his actions as his final hour ticks by before he's supposed to go to prison. An intriguing look at the world after 9/11, this fascinating character study manages to stay with you long after the film credits roll! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review Audience Member This was such an underrated movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/04/23 Full Review Alexander B This is a highly underrated film. It has an all star cast, great dialog, and brilliant story. It's definitely a film for adults. I would say it's spike Lee's best film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/21/23 Full Review Bernard N A movie that feels like a Don DeLillo novel, with it's terrific and sharp dialogue, its love of New York, it's indomitable Irish. The place the hero finds himself in is not so different from Nick Shay's. The desert where our hero is perhaps led to is also the resort for the heroes of DeLillo, who turn to the desert when they need to think. I'll probably never get rid of this association now, especially with "Underworld" (1997) and "Point Omega" (2010). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie was incredibly boring and pointless. What’s with the double takes too? No thanks Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
