Fresh-faced recent Harvard student Erwin (Rudy Pankow) flames out of his first professional acting job when he forgets to turn off his phone and triggers an explosive nightmare on set. His career and cell phone in tatters, he flees the New Orleans set, only to have his car break down deep in the heart of Texas oil country. Seeking refuge and some possible phone service in a local diner, he meets Faye (Carrie-Anne Moss), a kind waitress who takes pity on him and offers up the local phone book to find a mechanic. Without enough funds to fix his car, Erwin accepts an offer from Merle, a local oil driller (Thomas Haden Church) only to find out he too is nearly bankrupt and cannot pay his bills. With both men in desperate straits, Merle realizes their only hope may be Erwin's acting skills and a little help from Faye's shotgun. Read More Read Less

Katie Rife RogerEbert.com The script is so declarative and predictable that it suggests that the writers felt their audience must be stupid. Rated: 1/4 Mar 9, 2024 Full Review Joe Leydon Variety The next time you hear someone complain that they sure don’t make them like they used to, point them in the direction of “Accidental Texan." Mar 8, 2024 Full Review Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle There’s an earnestness about Accidental Texan that can only warm your heart. Every moment is predictable, but in Bristol’s capable hands that becomes a strength. Rated: 3/5 Mar 7, 2024 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Accidental Texan is an annoying 'fish out of water' comedy/drama about a Los Angeles-based actor who is reluctantly recruited by a Texas oil driller to be part of an oil scheme. The dialogue and scenarios become increasingly ridiculous. May 22, 2024 Full Review Sarah Little Screen Rant The comedy-drama Accidental Texan intends to pull viewers in with an unlikely friendship and heartwarming story, but the film mostly feels forced. Rated: 2/5 Apr 3, 2024 Full Review Mark Jackson Epoch Times As I started watching the film, I agreed with the critics. By the end, I agreed with the audience. Here’s the best way to watch this film—in three installments. Rated: 3/5 Mar 19, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
