Alice Through the Looking Glass

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Alice Through the Looking Glass is just as visually impressive as its predecessor, but that isn't enough to cover for an underwhelming story that fails to live up to its classic characters.

Udita Jhunjhunwala Livemint The film misses Burton's odd charm, is largely devoid of humour and, in spite of Hathaway, Depp and Bonham Carter, is mostly a waste of time. Aug 15, 2019 Full Review Nigel Andrews Financial Times [A] bland, overblown, characterless spectacle. Rated: 2/5 Dec 31, 2016 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com While little touches here and there can't help but excite the senses, the lack of a nuanced story or intriguing characterizations makes maintaining interest for all two hours utterly ridiculous. Rated: 1.5/4 Aug 9, 2016 Full Review Denise Pieniazek A Sala Llena (Argentina) Assuming that the literary work is only a starting point for inspiration, as happens here (the story completely deviates from the theme of the book of the same name), the narrative remains halfway without being entertaining enough, much less profound. Rated: 4/10 Jan 14, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The movie's overarching theme remains that time is short, and so we must make the most of it. But, thanks to this movie, time is a thief, stealing two unrecoverable hours from our lives. Rated: 0.5/4 Apr 11, 2022 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy The Walrus and the Carpenter are nowhere to be found in Alice Through the Looking Glass, meaning audiences will have to make do with the addition of Marty McFly and Captain Jack Sparrow. Dale R Alice revisits Wonderland and finds the Hatter is in need of help and so travels through time to make everything right again. The idea that the Mad Hatter and Father Time are having an argument, so Time makes it tea time, all the time, is straight from the pages of Lewis Carroll’s works. But that is the vaguest hint of idea from the source material in this film. Again, Tim Burton delivers a visually stunning film, but the characters and story are basically caricatures of what the books or 1959 film delivers. I don’t think this film is worth your time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Platty the Perrypus W Maybe after realizing that the time travelling is what is causing the bad things, you should STOP instead of making everything worse? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/06/24 Full Review Jonathan Q Esta secuela: It's perfect! ;) Rate this movie better than they!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/09/24 Full Review Teddy B A haphazardly slapped together hodgepodge of unimpressive ideas that feel so absolutely terribly together. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/05/24 Full Review Lisa J I feel critics forget movies are supposed to be fun and entertaining, something this movie absoloutely was. The first movie shows the red queen as a one dimentional character who is only evil for the sake of being evil, the sequel shows she is more than that, which is why I am strangely fond of her. Also very happy to see Sacha Baron Cohen, I could feel Borat slipping out at times lol. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/24 Full Review Sinthia A it's not a very good movie to watch.
