G. Allen Johnson San Francisco Chronicle The kind of evocative, impressionistic storytelling one might find in, say, films by Terrence Malick or Andrei Tarkovsky. It is a minimalist, observational masterpiece. Rated: 4/4 Nov 22, 2023 Full Review Michael Phillips Chicago Tribune Without the central relationship between the adult sisters as a compass I don’t know if Jackson’s approach would work at all. But McClure and Ingram are first-rate, as vivid in their unspoken understanding as they are in their easygoing banter. Rated: 3.5/4 Nov 10, 2023 Full Review Ann Hornaday Washington Post All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt doesn’t just announce a promising new talent in Jackson. It serves as a shimmering, dreamlike reminder that movies are as good for poetry as for prose. Rated: 3/4 Nov 7, 2023 Full Review Daniel Allen Loud and Clear Reviews It may not leave you enthralled, but All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt shows the director has great promise, especially visually. Maybe from this, a great river of filmmaking will form in the future. Rated: 3/5 Jul 25, 2024 Full Review Nadine Whitney The Curb Graceful, elegant, tactile, moving poetry by Raven Jackson. All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt is sense memory, but it is also an ode to how life ebbs and flows. Unmissable. Rated: A+ Jul 19, 2024 Full Review Sarah Marrs Lainey Gossip This kind of cinema is nourishing to our souls ... and All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt is a feast. May 29, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

merrie t Beautiful film. Quiet, lyrical like a visual poem. Great performances. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/26/23 Full Review Excel A All Dirt Roads Taste Of Salt In Raven Jackson's directorial debut, "All Dirt Roads Taste Of Salt," the non-linear narrative unveils the intricate tapestry of Mackenzie's life in Mississippi. While the film's random sequencing may not appeal to all viewers, it weaves together a mosaic of people, places, and moments that define the lead character. Not every moment shown holds the same profundity, and some moments are dragged too long. Other than the random sequencing this flick has, it also relies on a stylistic dialogue that minimally uses spoken words, instead delving into scenes through expressive eye and body language. This is also coupled with an immersive exploration of landscapes, complemented by a vibrant and rich score which helps compensates for the limited verbal communication. This movie opens with the line, "Slow, take your time", and this echoes the pacing present. The pacing is slow and sometimes torturous; stares linger long and hugs last even longer. The nonlinear manner the scenes are presented in also deprives the movie from having a buildup. All Dirt Roads Taste Of Salt stands out with its unique mosaic approach to memories, but this won't be to everyone's taste or appreciation. However, its commendable cinematography and setting contribute to its distinctive character. 5.5/10 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/16/24 Full Review Jonathan G Very raw, very slow, and very memorable. Raven Jackson's directorial feature debut is very tender in its love and caring towards its characters, and the sounds of nature is soothing and comforting. This was written exceptionally, and I'm sad that this is yet another gem from A24 that fell between the cracks. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/08/24 Full Review Jamie C You're going to want to set aside time for this gem and be in the right frame of mind for it's subtleties to reel you in. If this happens, you will not forget this movie. It's so beautiful, poignant and it resonated with me deeply. A brave film to make for its lack of dialogue but it's soundscapes and scenery more than make up for the absence of words. I loved it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/05/24 Full Review Audience Member Near perfection. Having a hard time thinking of another debut film that felt so much like an old school director with decades of storytelling had made. Jackson has an eye that must come from some ethereal place. Her imagery is fresh and there’s times when I’ve wondered if I’ve ever lived with my eyes open. Beauty. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/26/23 Full Review Alexandros T I hoped a dozen times that the actual scene will be the last one, but there was always another.
