Yes, some decent visuals and the bear scene which you can view on YouTube for free but that's it. All of the actors phoned their roles in. Meandering and sub par plot and story. No directorial point of view. Ex Machina it is Not. Some reviews think their high and mighty because no true answers are given and I like that when the rest is worth my time, Under the Skin but I wish I could get those 2 hours back.

An absolute masterpiece of lovecraftian horror! Holding you at the edge of your seat merely through the conditions its protagonists are facing, while at the same time building upon their personality and their coping mechanisms in this hostile environment, it's a perfect example of a subtle yet magical horror film that explores aspects of both human and wild nature.

I really loved this movie. There were so many intricate details that really made you think. It was a great alien movie that took a fresh perspective away from the typical humanoid type aliens. There were many hidden easter eggs that forshadowed coming events and ideas that you have to watch it multiple times!

The writers and director really wanted this movie to be deep but it ended up being a boring slog instead. You'll see some clowns online say if you don't like this movie it's because you don't understand it. Somehow people think liking this movie is proof of intelligence. Overall this is an incoherent mess of a movie with a convoluted plot that isn't as thought provoking as everyone wants to believe it is. The second half of the movie is so bad I get sad every time I think about it.

I very much like this movie. It is based on the first book of a trilogy called the Southern Reach trilogy by Jeff VanderMeer. It's not a strict adaptation, characters and location change, which makes it interesting to watch even if you have read the books. What it succeeds in, is portraying the palpable sense of unease and confusion that the characters experience when confronted by something completely alien and unintelligible, and how most of the characters break from this experience. Give it a watch!
