J. R. Jones Chicago Reader The languid pace effectively communicates the characters' crushing boredom, yet the dramatic interest never flags. May 8, 2014 Full Review Ty Burr Boston Globe While the climax of Beneath the Harvest Sky is a jumble of crosscutting, thunderstorms, and an inconveniently collapsing house, the movie never loses the pulse of people and tragedies it knows too well. Rated: 2.5/4 May 8, 2014 Full Review Stephen Holden New York Times For all its missteps, the film feels authentic. Through thick and thin, it stubbornly maintains a thorny integrity. May 1, 2014 Full Review Jared Mobarak The Film Stage While we're never surprised at the outcomes, we're satisfied because few if any notes ring false. Rated: B- Mar 7, 2016 Full Review Dustin Putman TheFilmFile.com The performances in "Beneath the Harvest Sky" are better than the movie itself, an exceedingly derivative teen melodrama that too often loses focus and meanders off on lugubrious tangents with its criminal subplots. Rated: 1.5/4 Oct 20, 2014 Full Review Ron Wilkinson It's Just Movies A story that unfolds nearly as slowly as the potatoes ripen in the fields, the charismatic performances of the two young leads make all the difference. Serge L Pretty effing good story about milking purple potatoes for chips. Two brothers with frenchie names living in the border town in the maritimes, played by englishes, wish they were living in a more english place named Boston. The whole thing smells too much like potatoes and one brother breaks free of the regular mold to get into drug deal mold. The film is down-to-earth good like potatoes well chipped, which I wish I had. We kind of see that the rot is so prevalent, drugs getting bought from old guys and exchanged for cash, etc. The film holds its own, english-wise. The end is frenchie. It has a small town feel. The dramatic end was to come. No way this film, with this tone, could have ended well. Great time all around! haha! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Very enjoyable and easy to watch film Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A contemporary true-to-life story of poverty-ridden, economically depressed rural northern Maine, a place where welfare and the drug culture is dominant. The young actors live it and live it hard, and at least one escapes and flies over the cuckoo's nest. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Very compassionate film with great story line. The movie feels very convincing and authentic. The two leads did beautiful performances and made the movie that much better. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Good acting and a gripping story carried this indie film.
