Jonathan Romney Film Comment Magazine If every new film made today is to a greater or lesser degree an echo box of past possibilities, what's notable is how much Villeneuve gives those echoes room to breathe and to be new. Mar 8, 2018 Full Review Melissa Anderson 4Columns In the end, for all its pleasures, it's difficult to view Blade Runner 2049 as anything but an elaborate echo of the original, neither true sequel nor reboot, unclear of its own identity. Oct 30, 2017 Full Review Tim Hayes Sight & Sound The film dares to be ambiguous, but ambiguity is a bad fit with the current critical mood that art must be prescriptive rather than reflective. Oct 17, 2017 Full Review Brittany Patrice Witherspoon Pop Culture Reviews 2049 is able to exist both as a masterful sequel and/or stand-alone film in the universe, which showcases Villeneuve’s massive skill as a storyteller and further validates him as one of the best visionaries of our generation. Rated: 5/5 Jul 11, 2024 Full Review Justin Micallef Vague Visages If the original film’s warmth beneath the cold metropolitan’s structure came from Deckard’s love for Rachel, 2049 extends this ethos to a love and understanding of the self in the greater context of others. Feb 6, 2024 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand Just as in the original, this film is as much about the texture of the world on screen as it is the story of the Replicants 30 years after Deckard first strolled the mean streets of L.A. B T Good follow up to Blade Runner final cut. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/25/23 Full Review Dylan H A great legacy sequel that although slow at times is a great continuation to the series and has some of the greatest visuals I have ever seen. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review Gaming N good movie, the first blade runner was better tho, imo. this movie had too much nudity for me Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/07/24 Full Review Roger L This is such a complex and rich movie I will be re-watching it again and again to savor the audio and the visuals, but most importantly all the subtle details in the acting and writing that ignite the imagination. Much is implied and leaves room for a sequel yet the story is by itself satisfying. A masterwork. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/07/24 Full Review Gerald H What a wonderful, great, beautiful sequel. Villeneuve always dwells beyond expectations. But still not 5 stars, because a) it is difficult to hand out 5 stars in a universe where The Godfather ecists PLUS b) why do we have to cope with the Hans Zimmer-soup in this movie? Well, yes, he tries to catch the Vangelis-vibe … but doesn‘t. Why not use or hire Vangelis? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/06/24 Full Review Lua R Blade Runner 2049 has a suspenseful yet calming feel to it that makes one instantly comfortable. Whether it's the familiar faces on the screen or the dystopian world that doesn't seem too far away, this movie has been able to capture every emotion and scene perfectly. Ryan Gosling may be one of the best actors in the world and shows this in Blade Runner 2049. This movie takes you through the journey of "K" who is a replicant. He works at the police department. Through one of his assignments, he realizes more about himself and disobeys orders to find out more. We are introduced to a familiar face, Rick Deckard played by Harrison Ford. We see that who "K" thought of himself may not be true and how he handles himself with this information. With the plot and incredible film, Blade Runner 2049 is a must watch.
