I had never warched it before sober. I just did. I couldn't help feeling Donnie Darko is just David Lynch for simpletons. Jake is great but he's surrounded by D-list-level performance. For a great creepy rabbit watch Sexy Beast. Drew Barrymore could never act.

Superb and haunting science fiction film, thanks to a super cast and Richard Kelly's innovative story. The cast is excellent, especially Jake Gyllenhal as the title character, playing Donnie with the right mix of strangeness yet intelligence that you root for him even as he starts to do some crazy things. Behind the camera, writer/director Richard Kelly crafts one of the best science fiction movies in recent years, giving just enough answers on the time travel premise while leaving enough unanswered to provide a haunting feel. The result is one of the most innovative science fiction films in recent years.

One of my favorite films of all time, the scoring and soundtrack are dead on. The plot is imaginative and gripping , the acting and ensemble cast are above reproach. This movie bred 2 of Hollywoods brightest stars from the Gyllenhaal family. If i could give it 6 stars i would, Richard Kelly killed it.
