Liz Moody Empire Magazine A deceptively simple tale with a lot to say, Drift lingers long, thanks largely to a mesmerising performance from Cynthia Erivo. Rated: 4/5 Apr 10, 2024 Full Review Ed Potton Times (UK) Captivatingly played by Cynthia Erivo, Jacqueline is in almost every frame of this small but haunting English-language debut by the Singaporean director Anthony Chen... Rated: 4/5 Apr 1, 2024 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) This portrait of lost souls connecting is unassuming, but quietly powerful. Rated: 3/5 Mar 31, 2024 Full Review Abe Friedtanzer Below the Line This is a film that lives in the uncomfortable, recognizing that some people won’t ever be able to find happiness. Rated: B+ Jul 23, 2024 Full Review Jericho Tadeo MovieWeb There's an important message about community being telegraphed here, but the story doesn't spare enough time for it to really land. Jul 12, 2024 Full Review Maria Lattila Film Stories Not everything in Drift works. Chen’s narrow approach to the themes hinders it at times and the lack of plot tests your patience, but there is hope to be found in this gentle, caring film. Melissa B Cynthia Erivo and Alia Shawkat were such an unexpectedly powerful duo. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review Audience Member In life sometimes we drift away so much that we forget our purpose Cynthia Erivo and Alia Shawkat co-star forming an unlikely friendship Erivo plays Jaqueline, she's barely making it on her own having fleed her home country torn apart by war She lives as a drifter in the Greek islands trying to make money to feed herself shutting out any reminders of the painful memories Jaqueline then runs into a tour guide named Callie The both of them become close The performances are so rich it's actually kinda hard to watch because it's so heartbreaking watching Jacquieline break down explaining the horrors she had to endure The narrative is pretty rusty but both actresses work together very well with enough resonance that can be universal This is what can be said for most refugees is that all it takes is 1 person to fully understand them A slow burning character study that works well Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Chase L Saw a preview screening today -- LOVED the movie. Gripping & heartfelt. Powerful story about of tragedy, loss and struggle yet there's a hopeful spirit and love for the lead that carries you through.
