Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) By design, Fallen Leaves isn’t so much a romance as a series of gestures towards the idea of one. You can’t tell this kind of story any more, is the implication, but wouldn’t it be nice if you could? Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 19, 2024 Full Review Stephen Romei The Australian This movie does follow that arc in its own way. It feels like there’s a big beating heart awaiting its moment. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 15, 2024 Full Review Alonso Duralde Breakfast All Day This is a movie that could be gloomy so easily, but [Kaurismäki] somehow manages to find this level of whimsy and and optimism. Rated: 8.8/10 Jan 26, 2024 Full Review Calum Cooper Flick Feast The film exudes a quiet sorrowfulness that informs every plot beat and every visual choice. Rated: 4/5 Jul 19, 2024 Full Review Joshua Polanski Boston Hassle The fleeting beauty of temporal happiness is no less beautiful. That’s the poetic heartbeat of Aki Kaurismäki’s latest film, Fallen Leaves Jul 4, 2024 Full Review Tim Miller Cape Cod Wave Magazine However understated, Kaurismaki’s film also offers a warm love story about two lonely people, one alcoholic, struggling to break out of their dead-end lives. ... No matter how bleak life can be, Kaurismaki suggests, there is hope. Rated: 4/4 Mar 16, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Gene Very good dram-com with romantic touch Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/06/24 Full Review Sari This movie was amazing. It has a short run time which is refreshing out alongside the other releases that consistently go above two hours. My whole theater was laughing at the dry pan humor and the out of time feel really made the movie very tense. It was a very enjoyable experience that will make you leave with a smile. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/04/23 Full Review sophia z This is not an action film. It is a beautifully rendered look at the mundane life of two characters we desperately hope will find each other. And very subtly we see their characters change because, well, there now are reasons to change. They embrace life very differently than before because of each other. Beautiful film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/26/23 Full Review Christopher Really enjoyable. A story about two people each living out their own rather bleak existence - but find hope and companionship with one another. The film is from Finland, so it has rather dark. sardonic humor and minimalist qualities. However, the actors are compelling to watch and the story is engaging. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/18/23 Full Review Jane N I have watched this film at cinema club this evening. I thought it was poor. I wouldn't want to go to Finland if that's what it's like. Depressing from start to finish. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/11/24 Full Review David G Though I was engaged by the lead actors, I found the stylized approach to all characters in the movie irritating. There’s deadpanned and then there’s stilted. Everyone acts as if revealing some warmth or cracking half a smile will cause an explosion. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/02/24 Full Review Read all reviews
