What to Know

Critics Consensus

Wildly erratic even for a spoof movie, Fifty Shades of Black bears the unfortunate distinction of offering fewer laughs than the unintentionally funny film it's trying to lampoon.

Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Another depressing "cinema parody" that isn't half as amusing as the film(s) it wants us to laugh at. Rated: 1/5 Mar 13, 2016 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times 50 Shades of Black does, at least, have to good grace to be 50 times more entertaining than the original. Rated: 2/5 Mar 11, 2016 Full Review Kate Muir Times (UK) Even the idea that Fifty Shades of Grey might require parody seems ludicrous. Rated: 1/5 Mar 10, 2016 Full Review Robert Kojder Flickering Myth Honestly, the whole experience would fare better as a skit rather than a feature-length film Rated: 2/5 Dec 4, 2017 Full Review Mikel Zorrilla Espinof A horrible movie and an even worse parody, it's sad that one ends up laughing less with it than with 'Fifty shades of Grey'. [Full review in Spanish] Feb 16, 2017 Full Review Richard von Busack MetroActive A moment of Netflix product placement suggests the idea that this would have been better as one no-filler hour of television. Yuri D É maravilhoso sim!! deveria estar em 100% e merece continuação, por favor façam de toda a trilogia mesmo que estas não tenham sido ruins como o primeiro filme. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/11/23 Full Review Lynn J Some good laughs but it's wasn't good Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/20/23 Full Review Vairon C 50 shades of shitty money grab Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/18/23 Full Review Marc Z Marlon Wayan's is likable and funny. Even he can not save this silly and crude satire. The story is a loosely based, satirical look at the sexual novel and film, Fifty Shades of Grey. Like all satires it takes things that are memorable from the mainstream film and makes them ridiculous. This film does that. Perhaps it was more relevant, and funnier in 2016 when it originally was released die to the close proximity to the original source material. Also, perhaps it would be better if I actually enjoyed the source material, which I did not. Don;t get me wrong, I couldn't help but laugh at some parts-just not enough. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/16/23 Full Review Audience Member If you got sense of humor and don't take everything serious you will like this movie, but if you get ofended by stupid things don't watch this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Michael M 11% ""Fifty Shades of Black" was hilariously funny enough, but tells an impressive yet very unbelievable story".
