Philadelphia Inquirer Fort Bliss is a small film, but it addresses big issues, in ways that are never simplistic or dogmatic. Rated: 3.5/4 Oct 17, 2014 Full Review Ann Hornaday Washington Post "Fort Bliss" joins "Coming Home" and "The Best Years of Our Lives" as a movie deeply in sync, not just with the military characters it depicts, but also with the civilian world that awaits them with such confoundingly mixed messages. Rated: 3.5/4 Sep 25, 2014 Full Review Jordan Mintzer Hollywood Reporter [A] well-observed and endearing account of one woman grappling with allegiances to her fellow soldiers and her estranged 5-year-old son. Sep 22, 2014 Full Review Marya E. Gates Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) A complex character study of world often depicted only from the male perspective is well worth your time, especially for Monaghan’s raw performance Feb 13, 2024 Full Review Morgan Rojas Cinemacy The script lacks the precise authenticity needed to give this film its staying power. Nov 8, 2018 Full Review Travis Hopson Examiner.com There aren't a lot of fireworks or surprises in Fort Bliss, but it's a well-told story that pays respect to our men and women in uniform. Giorgio S I liked this film and it's a miracle cause I watced it on youtube with faster audio that was barely audible and not having the chance to see the full characters body. Michelle Monaghan gives a really good job and the plot is interesting but for me they should have focused more on the mother son relationship and ignore the dtory with her new boyfriend. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Joy S Easy to fallow hard to swallow Staff sergeant in my opinion is to hard on self and on 5 Year old son ex husband doesn't help matters with his bad attitude I was happy to see them somewhat work it out at the end but feel the story could have been a little deeper Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Arthur G Rearchitect on strippers and back story I found Carter and Junie. H did survive her being a featured dancer at Treasures in Houston. Carter write the script in bar napkins so comments on why he was in the club were mute. He did hate to see her dance. Real tragedy was she got involved with a rice white dyed. Monica was seduced with money but also the confidence of drug dealer Chicago. She invested too much time with a customer that stripper YouTube videos stated were a bad idea as the customers think they own the girls. Monica was owned the money negotiations became mutual agreement to spend time at night in his apartment and later fly off to LS. Also a big no was going outside the club to be a gf or private escort. Although as independent contractors the strippers did report girls that escorted and tricked on the side. Married strippers were able to stay married and they did it by jealously protecting their private liivrd using fake name (Monica gave hers out too easily opened her to sketchy customers and stalkers and hustlers like Chicago. Clubs protected the strippers from sec traffickers and drug dealers. Doubt the fighting girls would have police called with bouncers to handle problems as clubs would not want police called and jeopardized liquor license. Interesting she called Chicago not her auntie or girlfriend her picked her up. Kevin was too nice a mistake with strong willed women. They want a tough forceful male you saw it with how Monica did not defend Kevin after Chicago insulted him. After Kevin gave her $15K and a year of his career. Very disingenuous to her fiancée by insulting him and having him take all her crap. She was a liar and Kevin had a right to ask about later and later times she came home and never answering her phone. Taking gifts and investing her spare time and affection on Chicago she was unfaithful a comment other reviews had. Just paying for some companionship in the club I found was not unsual according to strippers. Hospital part with bills was fake hospitals have patient accounts staff and advocates work with families not doctors who are contracted services. Clinic managers handle the physicians bills. Just another example of injecting as many black artists into the story line to muddle it up and reduce time that more important conversations between the principal players could have provided more insights into the behaviors seen on scene. Ali Corbin was made out a bimbo. Her standard response of "Okay" even to ignore being close to dad. She did have a moment with facial expression after Chicago laid down the law of her actual role as another of his "bitches" then finding daddy died days earlier she woke up left her gifts and went home. Jay Dee loved Kevin and had his baby (8 months pregnant when she visited Monica to apologize) but knew he lived Monica and facilitated them connecting by providing his telephone number in LA. Carter stated in an interview he wanted love to conquer over the couples hardship. Monica created the problem and Kevin's infidelity was the result of her bad behavior. But he should have kept his mouth shut and not give her something to get her off the hook. Enough said a imperfect telling if a better story than the version presented. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member When she returns home from serving in the military, her kids doesn't want anything to do with her and she struggles to find a place to belong. Like Hallmark goes to war. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Movies about soldiers returning from war are nothing new but Fort Bliss is a well-made film for the most part. The script could’ve been a little stronger and more surprises but the acting is well done and it has good messages about what the soldiers go through. What makes fort Bliss unique as it focuses on a woman soldier in the relationship with her child and ex-husband. It’s not a groundbreaking film but takes a different perspective of an important subject. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/05/20 Full Review Audience Member An Emotionally Rollercoaster. Being Torn Between Two Commitments Is Never Easy, Especially When The Workplace Is On The Other Side Of The World. Very Realistic Story With A Level Of Psychological Complexity That Isn't Seen Too Often In Military-War Stories. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
