The movie is much more engaging than the "experts" suggest. Beautiful vistas, interesting relationships woven through the film, and a number of tense, thrilling moments. 3+ hours flew by.

Excellent story/saga of the reality of West as it was in the mid 1800s. Storylines, cast,, locations and vision was excellent. This film really made you feel and envision what it was like or may have been like at that time. Well done Costner!

This being the first in a series of stories sets the stage and introduces a huge cast of characters for the remainder of the story. There is a lot to take in and process. Almost too much. The cinematography is outstanding. Beautiful vistas, ragged settlements, the best and the most treacherous of the 1880s. Acting is superb. Characters of all ilks that you will love, hate and fear. A lot to absorb in 3 hours, but I want to see the next episodes.
