Khalan C Still great soundtrack, memorable cast, and a touching tribute to Robin Harris but it feels the sequel was forced. Plus the plot of Kid breaking up with his girlfriend was very unneeded as they didn't have a legit reason to break up. This movie had better comedy while also keeping the musical and 90s vibe aspects of the first House Party. This movie also tries to also send some important messages and I think they did well at balancing the two. But for a movie called House Party, the party doesn't start until an hour into the movie and instead we watch Kid, Play, and Bilal go through the events that lead up to having to throw a house party which is only tolerable because of the three characters and their on-screen dynamic trio. Overall, House Party 2 is a great time to catch up with the trio of Kid, Play, and Bilal while also giving an actual story, better comedy elements, and same 90s vibe as well as the musical elements. If you didn't grow up in the '90s Era, some of the gags do not age well. But for those of us who lived this time( I was a teenager) this was an awesome movie! A very fun sequel that isn't as bad as the reviews make it out to be! This time around the boys are in college and they try to duplicate the success of their previous house party. The plot actually makes a lot of sense. It shows the struggles of a freshman in college being away from home out on his own and struggling financially. Kid just wants to honor his dad's memory (Robin Harris) and do well in school. Play, of course wants to break into the record business. Also, we get an appearance of a very young Martin Lawrence (Bilal) before he became a comedy superstar! Plus, a live performance from RnB legends Tony, Toni, Toné! This movie is pure '90s Nostalgia through and through!
