What to Know

Critics Consensus

Although it frequently forsakes action in favor of a needlessly knotty narrative, Hunt has enough thrills to satisfy more forgiving espionage fans.

Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) All of these things were huge [historical] events during that period, if you know all of this stuff, this movie is way better. Dec 6, 2022 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times “Hunt” works fine as a slam-bang action movie; but at heart it’s more of a cautionary tale. Dec 2, 2022 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com Hunt has some excellent bang-bang escapism, but it's ultimately too shallow to recommend. Rated: 2/4 Dec 2, 2022 Full Review Jana Monji Age of the Geek Director and star Lee Jung-jae mixes action with espionage but serves neither as well as it could, but this film opens an opportunity to learn more about the two Koreas in modern history. Rated: 3/5 Sep 25, 2023 Full Review Hector A. Gonzalez InSession Film There are some sparks to Lee Jung-jae’s directorial talents, Hunt is bombastically muddled and doesn’t know if it wants the audience to take it seriously or indulge in its explosive subplot-covered demeanor. Rated: C- Jul 25, 2023 Full Review Alistair Lawrence Common Sense Media But his intended modern espionage epic, inspired by real events, has far too many storylines thrown into the mix. tatere A good demonstration of the uselessness of torture. No good guys, only bad guys with some valid points and also guns. Well done. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/05/22 Full Review pedro j Ignore the facile review on the guardian. This is a masterpiece of double and triple crosses that outmanoeuvres all western attempts at political intrigue/espionage. Everything is brilliantly executed and probably the only film of this type that brought tears to my eyes with a thrilling and exulting end. The only difficulty is in keeping track of who's who with korean names. A truly brilliant film. :] Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/17/23 Full Review Steve D Excellent movie. Far better than most of the movies now showing. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Just wow!!
