What to Know

Critics Consensus

This 1994 Pauly Shore vehicle stretches its star's thin shtick to the breaking point with a laugh-deficient screenplay that borrows shamelessly from Bill Murray's far superior Stripes.

Gene Siskel Chicago Tribune Whatever Shore wants to do in the movie business is his business, but the feeling here is that he could expand his audience beyond the teen set if he were to laugh at himself a little bit more. Rated: 2/4 Aug 16, 2017 Full Review Kevin Thomas Los Angeles Times If Shore's comic genius eludes you or if you find the film something less than a constant laugh riot, you may still be willing to agree that it's amiable enough and not begrudge in the least the likelihood that Shore fans will be pleased. Dumont W Phobe even DAG couldn't save this disaster Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/05/24 Full Review Golden Rule T I paid $1 to see this movie in 1994 and I felt ripped off. I will never get that 92 minutes of my life back. BAD. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/13/22 Full Review Audience Member Hilarious movie that reminded my so much of how my boyfriend probably was at army bootcamp! Ignore the haters Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Good buddy movie really funny and action packed Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Gen X should never be forgiven for giving us Paul Shore and Andy Dick. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review brendan n In the Army Now is another Pauly Shore vehicle that falls apart as it goes along. The film is quite funny as Shore goes through all the typical army training and punishment he endures due to his disrespect to training officers. The remaining support are essentially left with nothing and it's all the Pauly Shore show, which was to be expected. The film isn't without its charm but it will depend on your tolerance for the usual Pauly Shore humour. The film really needed to flush out the support to ensure the weight wasn't to be fully lifted by Shore and it's this reliance that really sinks it in the end. There was ample opportunity to branch out of the usual comedy troupes and sadly this is one of those films that will vanish for the new generation. 05/07/2020 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
