Ni A Terrible film. No compassion. Point of view was interesting but even this, although conveyed with technical imagination, got lost by not understanding the main character’s distress. Reminds me of Dickens's Christmas Carol without Scrooge’s chance of redemption . Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review Dan R Is there anything more uncomfortable than those occasions when disgruntled families gather together? 2016's 'Krisha' explores this in great detail. SYNOPSIS: 'Krisha returns for Thanksgiving dinner after ten years away from her family, but past demons threaten to ruin the festivities.' Filmed as part movie and part documentary, this is an incredibly awkward and troubling film which explores how addiction can devastate an entire family and cause unrepairable damage both physically and mentally. This is an ambitious first film from director Schults, who also stars in the film as the estranged son. It's an engrossing 80 minutes which feels like a car crash as things go terribly wrong but you can't look away. It's challenging because the scenarios feel so real. We've all been in similar family get togethers though maybe not to this extreme. It's an eye opening film. Almost genius. 8/10 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/23/24 Full Review Alec B A general description of the plot would understandably cause most to dismiss it as tawdry melodrama or the stuff of bad theatre, but the execution saves this thing. Paced and shot like a horror film, "Krisha" isn't so much subverting the family drama as it is slicing it open. When the emotional outbursts finally come they feel raw and unhinged. There's no resolution, only pain. Anyone who has witnessed this kind of emotional destruction at a family gathering knows how eerily accurate this depiction is. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Rob W Nepotism at its finest, writer/director/producer/star Trey gets his actual family to film a terrible portrayal of alcoholism. His lack of understanding of the behavior of an alcoholic is almost as bad as his lack of understanding of cinematography. Don't waste your time with this. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/25/23 Full Review Tucker C Best thanksgiving movie ever made Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/31/23 Full Review Jerod S It's a painful holiday movie about an addict mom that comes home thinking that she's "done the work" and ready for what being around the whole family will bring. Unfortunately, the family isn't ready for her either. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
