Critics Consensus

Despite the relaxed, easy chemistry of stars Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, Larry Crowne is surprisingly bland and conventional.

Deborah Ross The Spectator Tom Hanks directs himself in this, and also wrote the original script, so if you ever thought you can't have too much Hanks here is something else to blow your mind: you so, so can. Aug 31, 2018 Full Review Roger Moore Tribune News Service Extremely modest, featherweight. But watchable. Rated: 2.5/4 Mar 11, 2023 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com This movie may not change your life, but if you give yourself to it you'll leave the theater with a smile on your face. Rated: 3.0/4.0 Sep 13, 2020 Full Review Micheal Compton Bowling Green Daily News This film is the cinematic equivalent of a marshmallow. It's soft and fluffy, but it leaves you unsatisfied and hungering for more after you consume it. May 7, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I thought this was so boring. I love Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks so I was really looking forward to seeing this movie. I can't even remember if I watched all of it. I can't remember much about the story even. I definitely would find something else to watch. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/18/24 Full Review Sandy B Boring. Not funny at all. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/21/24 Full Review Troy P Somehow I liked the movie while watching it, and ended up not caring about the characters, story or film at all as soon as it was over. About the best completely forgettable movie I can remember seeing, if I'm reminded I saw it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/31/23 Full Review John A The comedy is mild and a bit trite at best while romance is way too surface-level. Long airplane ride fodder. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Michael V REDISCOVER LIFE AND LOVE Larry Crowne is a 2011 American romantic comedy film directed by Tom Hanks 🎭 Meh, it passed the time. Sort of. 😕 This movie seemed very disjointed with a wafer thin plot… When he suddenly finds himself without his long-standing blue-collar job, Larry Crowne enrolls at his local college to start over. There, he becomes part of an eclectic community of students and develops a crush on his teacher. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/02/23 Full Review Narciso R I love this movie, maybe it's bland and conventional, compared to all the movies you've made. I enjoyed it, saw more than a little reality in it. Made me want to get a scooter. NRJ. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
