Christian Holub Entertainment Weekly The change of clothing and role hasn't led to C.K. going soft. Jul 17, 2019 Full Review Verne Gay Newsday The usual C.K. show - fresh, funny, smart, bleak, offensive, entertaining - with one minor demerit, for an overlong finish. Jul 16, 2019 Full Review Christopher Hooton Independent (UK) It's good to see he can still get out in front of an audience and dissect the human condition for laughs... Jul 16, 2019 Full Review Rob Gonsalves Rob's Movie Vault Finds Louis in his usual amiably schlubby but seriously askew conflict with life. Rated: A Aug 25, 2022 Full Review Scott Wampler Birth.Movies.Death. The new material is razor-sharp - a legit return to form... Kim W It will go down as one of the best specials in comedy history. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review jeff n A genius at his best. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member LOVE LOUIS! laughed my ass off! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Funny shit. Say what you want this guy is a genius of comedy! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Not his best special, but he is still one of the best to ever do it. If you are too sensitive to handle comedy that includes provocative topics, you probably should stick to watching nick cannon and pete holmes specials. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review susan j Louis CK has always had a great edge but it's always been tempered with wistfulness, whimsy, self-deprecation, and ultimately kindness---this time (for 75% of the show) he isn't just edgy, he's angry and hostile. Unattractively angry. Bitter. Caustic. Hateful. Red-faced ranting contemptuous. He's a guy caught in a traffic jam caused by an accident who gets out of his car and starts yelling what assholes everyone is--and don't they realize how he has someplace important to go?! He's the personification of a permanent creased frown. It's weird to hear him joke about men wanting to ejaculate all over things and have people watch...given that he sort of trapped women in his hotel rooms and asked him to do just that. My dislike of this Netflix show has nothing to do with all that--just that it's pretty weird to hear him making a pejorative joke about (he says) how gross men are in taking every opportunity to "splooge," as he says, on walls etc. Moving on. He is generally enraged--as said, he always has had an edge, but here he is purple-faced about everything. From the use of BC and AD in setting years---railing that it's based on "JESUS!!!" as he roars. If it didn't seem like he wanted to beat everyone to a bloody pulp while he was riffing it would be totally different but it's like he had a hot poker up his ass and his blood pressure is about to make him stroke out on stage--causing him to roar and rant as he did--his only kind words are for Jewish people, who really know what year it is, says Louis CK. Bellowing about killing dogs, acting out giving them heroin. Enraged thinking of himself when he used to care about animals. After 30 minutes he calms down a little bit -- at least he's not vein-pulsingly apoplectic. But 7 minutes later he's a madman on the corner off his meds again. Utterly poisonous. Does a bit about old people walking along together, which is rather sweet for about a minute, and quickly morphs into husband dying and the woman being miserable for 10 years--acts out her croaking. He's so miserable--except around 20 minutes before the end, when he talks about how profoundly bad relationships can become and mishaps of relationship emails if you have friends review then, and how love, he believes, always rots and dies. Tho he does add that love is the only thing worthwhile in life. And then segues into a few other bits that are pretty light-hearted and he's actually smiling, and enjoying himself. Some very funny parts there. In summary, overall Louis CK 2017 really kind of sucks, tho the last 25% is finally quite funny. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
