Machete Kills

What to Know

Critics Consensus

While possessed with the same schlocky lunacy as its far superior predecessor, Machete Kills loses the first installment's spark in a less deftly assembled sequel.

Brent McKnight Seattle Times "Machete Kills" takes on the madman taking over the world sub genre favored by middle-era James Bond films, mixes that with an excess of "Star Wars" jokes, and concocts a bland caricature. Rated: C- Jul 8, 2020 Full Review David Hiltbrand Philadelphia Inquirer Machete Kills is a film in which style sardonically routs substance, a cloying gag built around the iconic quality of Trejo's matchlessly craggy face, which resembles a plate of sundried corned beef. Rated: 1.5/4 Oct 15, 2013 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) This ignores the first rule of proper B-movie exploitation cinema - that anything over 89 minutes is just excess baggage, of which Machete Kills has plenty. Still, at least it's authentic in one respect - the trailer is better than the film. Rated: 2/5 Oct 14, 2013 Full Review Sarah Vincent Sarah G Vincent Views Vergara, whom most viewers are accustomed to seeing as the loveable, hot matriarch in “Modern Family,” steals the movie as the homicidal, man-hating, rage-filled whorehouse madam. She feels like the most authentic, Rodriguez character in the film Jun 12, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The director’s cinematic in-joke has run its course and has now entered overkill mode. Rated: 1.5/4 Aug 22, 2022 Full Review Kip Mooney College Movie Review Even in its bloated state, it's still an entertaining grindhouse flick. Rated: B- Sep 17, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Yash B The first "Machete" was very silly but also pretty fun to watch. I feel like "Machete Kills" doubles down on the silliness but loses the fun. The movie has some enjoyable action at times but a lot of it just felt too wacky and boring to me. I really think the movie would have worked better as a standalone after watching this follow-up. The movie just became a real cartoon but the story is just not that good. Overall, it is a movie that features a truly massive and impressive cast, but still isn't able to deliver much worth the time, even for fans of the first movie. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/24 Full Review Aldo G You have to buy into the grindhouse parody routine to even come close to liking what Robert Rodriquez has done here with his follow-up to the 2010 Machete. Yes, the story is like mucus and the acting phlegm, but that's what grindhouse movies are, the bronchitis of cinema. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/24 Full Review Alexander S Loved it. Can hardly wait for kills again in space. Fingers crossed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/24/23 Full Review DanRoW This is a very good movie, a lot of it is just brilliant (especially the ending), of course, it's a pity that "Machete 3 in Space" never came out, but there is always hope, and maybe in 5-10 years we will still see this movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/27/23 Full Review StephenPaul C The greatest 01 hour: and 47 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Starring Danny Trejo and Lady Gaga!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
