Gil Pender (Owen Wilson) is a screenwriter and aspiring novelist. Vacationing in Paris with his fiancee (Rachel McAdams), he has taken to touring the city alone. On one such late-night excursion, Gil encounters a group of strange -- yet familiar -- revelers, who sweep him along, apparently back in time, for a night with some of the Jazz Age's icons of art and literature. The more time Gil spends with these cultural heroes of the past, the more dissatisfied he becomes with the present. Read More Read Less

Midnight in Paris

What to Know

Critics Consensus

It may not boast the depth of his classic films, but the sweetly sentimental Midnight in Paris is funny and charming enough to satisfy Woody Allen fans.

Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Midnight in Paris is a very unselfish and lovely approach to inspiration, love, and the written word. A must watch. Rated: A- Sep 8, 2017 Full Review Roger Moore Tribune News Service Souffle light and long on charm, one of Allen's wittiest and certainly his most literary Rated: 3/4 Jan 8, 2013 Full Review David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) This combination of whimsy and romance is, for me, much more successful than Allen's previous European city film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Rated: 4/5 Oct 20, 2011 Full Review Wesley Lovell Cinema Sight If the viewer is able to set aside their personal distaste for the creator, the film is a wonderful sit. If they cannot, then it steadily reminds them of the personality Allen curated for decades and that might just be a bridge too far. Rated: 3.5/4 Oct 10, 2023 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... Allen brings his fantasy to life with such affection and joy that he transports us into his dream come true as a shared fantasy. Aug 19, 2023 Full Review Ezequiel Obregón EscribiendoCine An absolute ghost comedy, the story is reminiscent of Dickens' Christmas Carol. Fer S I gave this movie 40 minutes and I could not finish it. Unnecessary intro showing Paris for 5 minutes, Owen Wilson trying to be Woody Allen, humor was totally absent, acting was not coherent with what was happening and I could not find anything interesting about the main character or his problems. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/11/24 Full Review Dejan R Woody Allen as usual playing with audience ,with on first look easy comedy, but below a serous fight of one young anxious writer, questioning his live , work and relationship. We are witnessing comic situations in his hallucinations, caused by mixing Valium with wine. Imaginary book of his life is under review of legendary people from the past, and all under Paris beautiful blanket. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/12/24 Full Review Yellowfur D It makes me want to live in my dream Paris. The direction of the story is a bit too beautiful, as unreal as Paris in a dream. ps. I love "Let's Do It" at the dance party. (The mark I want to watch is March 28, 2019. I have put off watching it until now because I am not interested in Woody Allen.) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/24 Full Review MJ S I love this movie and one of my favorite Woody Allen films. Everyone should watch this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/24/23 Full Review Ian B brilliant story, great concept. Intellectually riveting. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/22/23 Full Review Adrian B Touches very much my personal impressions and experiences of Paris. The main character's search for true identity has worked out well, in one of the finest W Allen's projects. See this movie, let it take you away.
