David Hunter Hollywood Reporter Newton is just about the best thing about M:I-2, playing a thinly written and cryptically motivated character with such charisma that one hangs on every lifting eyebrow and seductive smile. Jun 15, 2020 Full Review David Ansen Newsweek "M:I-2," as the new Mission: Impossible is tagged, is a slick, expensive, bullet-ridden thriller that is oddly dull -- the last thing you'd expect. Mar 6, 2018 Full Review Nell Minow Common Sense Media Good thrill ride of a movie for teens and older. Rated: 4/5 Dec 26, 2010 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Nothing about the movie works, and even less is worth remembering. Rated: 0.5/4 Mar 6, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Despite the obnoxiously overdramatic nature of several sequences, there are still a number of amusing moments of action and a modestly competent emotional interaction or two. Rated: 4/10 Aug 29, 2022 Full Review Tony Black Cultural Conversation A film that remains eternally fascinating, particularly as the demonstrable nadir of, otherwise, one of cinema's most consistently entertaining blockbuster franchises. David C No está mal pero no es lo máximo Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/11/24 Full Review Tony J I'm surprised at the overall score, I thought it was a good movie and better than the first. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/02/24 Full Review Brian U "Mission Impossible 2," directed by John Woo, follows Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) as he embarks on a mission to retrieve a deadly virus called Chimera and its antidote, Bellerophon. The plot is standard action fare, with rogue agents, double-crosses, and a chaotic third act filled with gunfights and a climactic fistfight on the beach. The storyline feels recycled, and the overuse of the mask plot device strains believability. Ethan Hunt is portrayed as almost indestructible, pushing the character towards an implausible level of invincibility. Nyah (Thandiwe Newton) is a good character, though her quick fall for Ethan feels forced. Ambrose (Dougray Scott) is a dull antagonist, and his lackluster counterparts fail to add excitement. Supporting characters like Luther (Ving Rhames) and Billy (John Polson) are underutilized, with Ving Rhames deserving more screen time to showcase his talent. The acting is above average, with the cast delivering solid performances. Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Thandiwe Newton, and Anthony Hopkins are recognizable names that add star power. Thandiwe Newton stands out, providing one of the film’s highlights with her charm and beauty. Dialogue in "Mission Impossible 2" is average, lacking memorable lines or profound moments. The pacing is uneven, with frantic action scenes interspersed with slower, less engaging segments. This inconsistency detracts from the overall experience, making the film feel overproduced; the film's over-the-top style sometimes feels excessive. The movie lacks a clear theme or message, focusing solely on action without deeper meaning. Emotional impact is limited, with brief moments of involvement but also periods of boredom. Rewatchability is low, aside from appreciating Thandiwe Newton’s performance. Overall, "Mission Impossible 2" is a standard action movie that fails to stand out in the franchise. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/18/24 Full Review Dark R Okay this is definitely a 2000’s movie…😄 It’s still a good movie don’t get me wrong; but the screenwriting and characters needed a little work. After the first movie Ethan’s character had already been built but the whole close-up-hot-guy-smile kinda felt like a Romcom…The action was in fact pretty cool, and the third movie makes up for it! The plot was slightly hard to follow but I will say they had a way of getting my attention at the cliff climbing scene; just sayin 😂. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/12/24 Full Review Lucas t I prefer this over the first one because of its darker tone. 7.6/10. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/04/24 Full Review Charles C Even though this film is filled forgettable characters and plot, and poorly aged slow-mo, the action sequences are enough to redeem this movie to some what enjoyable Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/31/24 Full Review Read all reviews
