Critics Consensus

Wasting Dave Bautista's crack comedic timing on a leaden script, this My Spy sequel is a mission failure.

Christy Lemire RogerEbert.com Whatever comic gems you’re expecting from a cast like this never truly emerge; there’s too much going on, as “The Eternal City” lumbers from broad violence to treacly sentimentality. Rated: 1.5/4 Jul 21, 2024 Full Review Nell Minow Movie Mom This sequel is a superfluous and unnecessary IP extender, which might be okay if it wasn’t creating a problem for parents who have to explain to eight-year-olds why they should not see it. Rated: C Jul 18, 2024 Full Review Owen Gleiberman Variety The film settles into a generic groove that makes it seem at times like a “Spy Kids” movie minus the gizmos (and, therefore, most of the fun). Jul 18, 2024 Full Review Ronak Kotecha The Times of India In the end, one wonders if this sequel was truly necessary. With stronger writing and more impactful punches—both comedic and physical—this spy thriller could have been the riotous affair it intended to be. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 7, 2024 Full Review Jamie Graham Total Film A solid-enough sequel. If you enjoyed the first, it’s worth your time on Prime Video. Rated: 3/5 Aug 5, 2024 Full Review Jackie K. Cooper jackiekcooper.com Dull and lifeless. A sequel no one was clamoring to see. Rated: 4/10 Aug 5, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Nim T Liked this sequel more than the first one. Although I do not deny that the plot has cheesy elements, it also had some surprises. The action scenes were tight and passable execution. The spotlight was Anna Faris acting as a villain, something drastically different than other roles that I saw her in. Chloe Coleman grew up and brought a more mature side in this one, showing that non-blood related people can nevertheless love each other. Ken Jeong and Kristen Schaal are comedians, so wasn't surprising to see a few laughs here and there. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/11/24 Full Review Andrei D Bautista and the rest of the cast deserve better than this Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/05/24 Full Review T S If you love Dave Bautista action comedies, you'll love this as much as I did. I get why the ratings are so low though - it seems like they tried to make a kids movie, but it's too scary and violent for kids. And too kid-like for adults, leaving it a bit in no-man's land. The scenery's stunning though! They go all over Italy. Ken Jeong is in it, and the girl is super cute. Lots to like if you like Dave Bautista. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/04/24 Full Review Audience Member I love love love this movie ❤️ I highly recommended. It has such a cute story line and some good actors. I’ve never watched the first movie, but after seeing the second movie I got hooked on the franchise. Hope to see more! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/27/24 Full Review Robin W Excellent entertainment. Some parts a bit crude but you can get by that. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/27/24 Full Review Jim D I am almost shocked at the low ratings for this movie. With Chloe Coleman now a young lady, I thought the script really demonstrated the changing dynamic in the father figure/daughter relationship well. It was entertaining and endearing. Loved both the original and this sequel. Watching it with my daughter tonight (second time for me.) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/26/24 Full Review Read all reviews
