Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online So much potential overshadowed by poor execution that begs the all important question: Why should we care? Rated: C- Sep 2, 2017 Full Review David Sims AV Club Succeeds mightily when it comes to creating tension but struggles a little more with making its plot run together smoothly. Sep 22, 2016 Full Review Alissa Wilkinson Christianity Today Night Moves calls us (inadvertently or not) to reconsider our definition of what's "natural." Certainly, some of the ways we've failed to care for the planet as we were charged back at the beginning have had dire consequences. Let's not ignore that. Rated: 3/4 Apr 13, 2016 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Shot by cinematographer Christopher Blauvelt with impressive clarity to the night scenes and weight to the mostly outdoor settings, Night Moves is an austere and beautifully composed film, marked by three excellent and nuanced performances at the center. Rated: 3.5/4 Feb 21, 2022 Full Review Robert Sims Lights Camera Austin This may chronicle the events leading up to and after an eco-terrorist attack on an hydroelectric dam, but director Kelly Reichardt's tightly drawn character study isn't concerned with advocating or condemning green politics. Alec B It's a shame that a little after the half-way point the film becomes more straightforward, because before that it's a fascinating thriller. Reichardt constructed a lean narrative that seems to indicate that the planning and execution of this act of terrorism is less an outgrowth of any specific ideology the character's hold, but rather a desperate attempt to find something to believe in. It's a great concept that is hampered by a messy final act. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/18/23 Full Review Randy F The movie begins with a plot that looks promising. Not! Scene after scene drags out like the camera crew went for lunch with the result that the whole movie drags. One keeps hoping for something exciting to happen, but . . . nothing. And it ends with nothing . . . like the whole movie crew grew tired of the venture and closed it down with no real ending. Don't waste 10 minutes on this poor excuse for movie making. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/05/23 Full Review Josh D My favourite movie by kelly Reichardt, slow and unsettling but super effective. Wrought with tenson and moral quandaries, that doesn't wimp out of a frightening climax. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/05/22 Full Review Audience Member A very subtle and environment-centric story that becomes quite tension-filled in the final act. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Night Moves is the second Kelly Reichardt movie I have seen; the first one is Wendy and Lucy. I highly enjoyed watching this independent movie. The entire story is about three environmentalists who join together to blow up a hydroelectric dam in protest of excessive waste of natural resources. The story is a no-frills character study about those who believe their actions will resonate loudly with a grand message only to doubt they even made a whimper. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review chris k Nice thriller, well-acted and well-directed. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
