What to Know

Critics Consensus

Pan finds a few bursts of magic in its prequel treatment of classic characters, though not enough to offset the rushed plot and shrill, CGI-fueled action.

Alison Herman Flavorwire Because between the inadvertently hilarious and the downright offensive, Pan is a generic mold for a reboot that shares little with the original beyond a handful of proper nouns. Aug 11, 2017 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) For the most part this is as flimsy as Tinkerbell's wings: big on gossamer sparkle, low on substance. Rated: 2/5 Oct 18, 2015 Full Review Geoffrey Macnab Independent (UK) Wright stages some very colourful set-pieces, but the film-making never takes wing. It doesn't help that the performances are as broad as any you will find in a pantomime at the Hackney Empire. Rated: 2/5 Oct 16, 2015 Full Review Denise Pieniazek A Sala Llena (Argentina) It is a transposition of the play "Peter Pan, the boy who did not want to grow up" (1904). The originality of this interpretation lies in its prequel character, introducing us the origin of Peter Pan and his arrival to the land of Neverland". Rated: 4/10 Jan 14, 2024 Full Review Therese Lacson Nerdophiles It'll certainly keep your kids entertained, but that's all that it will do. Pan does little to add to the classic tale (...) and fails to make an impression that lasts. Oct 9, 2021 Full Review Nick Levine NME (New Musical Express) Big production values aren't enough to save this muddled, clunky Peter Pan origin story. Aidan B Dull and forgettable, though not without its moments. Hugh Jackman and Levi Miller are great in this movie, though the film lacks any real charm to it. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/08/24 Full Review Golof M Ist very generic plot, and it doesn’t have much finess. I enjoyed the moire overall because it was nice.y favorite moment was when they discovered the hidden room where th e nuns wehre. I can only recommend the movie to a class Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/14/24 Full Review Valerie G In my opinion the movie deserves 3 stars. It was good, but it could have been much better. I think that the book is better because you really got to know the characters well, compared to the film. I would recommend to read the novel instead of watching the movie in school. Some scenes in the film were still quite magical, for example the scene when Peter flies through the fairy kingdom. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/25/24 Full Review Alec B I'm convinced that Joe Wright spent his entire time working on this film repeatedly screaming "More Whimsy!" at the cast and crew. This approach, coupled with a boring "chosen one" plot, creates one of the most labored and least successful adaptations of Peter Pan (and this includes "Hook"). Also, both Hugh Jackman and Garrett Hedlund give two of the goofiest performances I've ever seen. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/14/23 Full Review Luke C Abysmally convoluted with terrible pacing. I was actively disengaged within the first ten minutes. Our main actors performed well enough, but the story and execution hindered any chance at their talents saving the show.
