The Princess Bride

What to Know

Critics Consensus

A delightfully postmodern fairy tale, The Princess Bride is a deft, intelligent mix of swashbuckling, romance, and comedy that takes an age-old damsel-in-distress story and makes it fresh.

Feb 9, 2018 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian It's an adventure which reaches back to golden-age Hollywood and the devil-may-care world of Douglas Fairbanks or Tyrone Power playing Zorro, or Errol Flynn playing Robin Hood. Rated: 5/5 Oct 23, 2017 Full Review Derek Malcolm Guardian The Princess Bride easily transcends expectations, as a fantasy that has a few pertinent things to say about the genre, including the odd fact that the heroes of such things are often prettier than the heroines. Juan Diego L What a great movie. Beautiful Robin Wright in a medieval adventure about kings, kingdoms, enchanted forests, sword fighting, vengeance, and a classical ending. You got to love the sequence of defeating each bandit: the fencing master - both switching to right hand - defeating the giant, and, finally, overcoming the treacherous Vizzini in the brainiacs’ game (what a great solution to put poison in both cups - he had build resistance to the poison for years). The vengeance of Iñigo’s father, and the ending of the pinnacle of every middle-age movie: a kiss between princess and saviour, are part of the engaging plot. Filled with humor, cleverness, riveting characters, The Princess Bride is a must watch - and rewatch. As you wish… Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/28/24 Full Review Christine M Overall, this movie is a book adaptation done right. There is only one huge difference between the two, and that has to do with the "Pit of Despair." Other than that, it is almost exactly the same. Very enjoyable film filled with action, adventure, fantasy, and romance. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/21/24 Full Review Larry K Started off alright but got so boring so quickly Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/19/24 Full Review Jason M My most favorite movie ever. The impressive cast, lovable characters, brilliant storytelling and if something of a weak budget overcomes by the cinematographic effort and style. The movie never gets old. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/24/24 Full Review Andy B 80's action comedy fantasy which stands up today mainly due to the great actors involved. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review Alex N I think this is one of the most delightful movies ever. It manages to combine everything that makes a good story good. Action, comedy, high stakes, great lines, kissing books. It has something for everyone while not compromising a great story that stands up to the test of time. A near perfect movie experience is virtual impossible to achieve but this one shines as an example of doing everything right. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/10/24 Full Review Read all reviews
