What to Know

Critics Consensus

Strong work from Benicio del Toro and Alicia Silverstone isn't enough to make up for Reptile's convoluted and ultimately underwhelming story.

Audience Says

Solid acting and an engaging mystery help Reptile keep you hooked despite its slow pacing and a plot that might be too complicated for its own good.

Claudia Puig FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) A pretty effective murder mystery... [Benicio Del Toro] has aged very nicely into this sort of role. Oct 21, 2023 Full Review Kambole Campbell Empire Magazine Del Toro’s solid screen charisma can’t rescue Reptile, a derivative and lethargic thriller that rarely thrills as it tries and fails to build a case for itself as a meaningful iteration on the detective thrillers that it admires. Rated: 2/5 Oct 3, 2023 Full Review Robert Abele Los Angeles Times The fallout from all this purposeful gloom isn't merely that nothing surprises us; even Del Toro's committed portrayal of a careful man's gathering disillusionment gets jammed up. Oct 2, 2023 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...way overwritten in terms of character traits, and underwritten in terms of meaningful procedural changes; it’s the kind of film which requires warnings for the unwary; despite the sheen, it’s a time-waster where the end doesn’t justify the means... Rated: 2/5 Jul 28, 2024 Full Review Shakyl Lambert CGMagazine Benicio Del Toro’s solid lead performance can’t prevent Reptile from being a boring, forgettable procedural. Rated: 5/10 Jul 12, 2024 Full Review Dan Buffa Ramble On With Buffa (Substack) Hat tip to Del Toro and company. I like scripts that present a familiar formula in a mystery, and then proceed to have fun with the whodunit. Dec 3, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Exceeded my expectations!! Performances were great by everyone involved. Good to see Benicio, Alicia and Timberlake!! Thumbs up! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/10/24 Full Review Jessica H A great slow paced thriller. It may not have invented this genre but it delivers an intriguing plot with great performances and stunning visuals. Ignore the bad ratings it was outstanding! I would have happily watched 8 hours more of it as a mini series. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review Sophia S Del Toro is always hot great actor Alicia Silverstone surprised me, she did really well. Timberlake him and his storyline was boring. Wish there was more detail. Hope there’s a part two I love seeing Del Toro. Hot handsome as he ages Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/04/24 Full Review George P Initially it is highly engaging with its cast and locations, however, the script and editing is far too precise when considering the amount of plot details and that never make another scene in the film. Screen play and sequencing needed a massive overhaul before the shooting started. Drip drip drip with the plot that is largely just unneeded fluff. A disappointing waste of time. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/04/24 Full Review Mallory K This was pretty good… until then end. Big build up, For nothing ! Long and honestly, not worth then watch . Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/03/24 Full Review Pia G I love this film. I think it's hard for other reviewers to appreciate because of the slow pacing. The acting is superb except for Timberlake and Micheal Pitt's greasy hair. The tension is palatable especially when Domenick Lombardozzi and Del Toro are in scenes together. Sometimes it's not about the action/killing but the slow burn that leads up to it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/02/24 Full Review Read all reviews
