LivingDeadGirl G I went in with low expectations, especially given my fondness for the original film starring Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott. To my surprise, I found myself enjoying the movie on several levels. First off, I appreciated the storyline. The filmmakers struck a delicate balance by keeping the narrative similar enough to the original to maintain its essence, yet distinct enough to avoid being a mere copy. This approach allowed the new Roadhouse to stand on its own while paying homage to its predecessor. Jake Gyllenhaal's performance as Dalton was a pleasant surprise. Initially, I was skeptical about him stepping into such an iconic role, but he exceeded my expectations. Gyllenhaal brought a fresh yet fitting take to the character, capturing Dalton's toughness and charisma in a way that felt both respectful and innovative. However, Conor McGregor's performance was a major letdown. His acting was subpar, almost laughable at times, and his character did little to enhance the film. It’s baffling why anyone would cast him in such a significant role. His presence detracted from the overall experience and left me questioning the casting decisions. In summary, while the new Roadhouse succeeded in many areas, particularly with Gyllenhaal’s portrayal of Dalton, McGregor’s performance was a significant misstep. Despite this, the movie is worth watching for its fresh take on a classic story and Gyllenhaal’s performance. Sorry I feel a little dumber now for having sat through the whole thing. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/08/24 Full Review Read all reviews
