What to Know

Critics Consensus

Spaceman's poignant themes are partly brought to life by sensitive performances from a talented cast, but it fails to consistently engage with its most interesting ideas.

Audience Says

Spaceman definitely isn't for everybody, but it does a decent job of adapting a slow, cerebral story that's easier to engage with in print.

Robert Levin Newsday No matter how much Sandler makes the audience feel for Jakub, it can be hard to sustain an entire picture with nothing more than overarching sadness. And “Spaceman” never finds another register. Rated: 2/4 Apr 8, 2024 Full Review Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It's a little too slow and a little too philosophical. Mar 23, 2024 Full Review Geoffrey Macnab Independent (UK) Spaceman is ultimately Sandler’s show but it’s one astronaut movie that ultimately seems very short on rocket fuel. Rated: 2/5 Mar 7, 2024 Full Review Billie Melissa Men's Journal In a generation expected to do so much more with a whole lot less, Spaceman gently nudges us in the direction of holding onto the tangible and wills us to stop yearning for life to begin when days are already ticking by. Jul 9, 2024 Full Review Joonatan Itkonen Toisto.net By the end, I didn’t question the logic of the narrative. But I felt genuinely moved, like something inside me had shifted without noticing. That alone is worth the trip. Rated: 4/5 Jul 3, 2024 Full Review Kayla McCulloch Metro Times (Detroit, MI) Perhaps Sandler’s intention in playing Jakob was to have an excuse to beef up the portfolio with something more reserved than anything we’ve gotten from him before. daedricbeast 5 (Arachnophobia warning) You want a honest truth? Here's the review. Sadly our "critics" are really uneducated people who don't desire to clarify anything about movies now-a-days. The story has a wonderful mystery to it, giving you the viewer a story of enjoyment, to discovery even in yourself or reflection upon life. It's not a movie to just turn your brain off too, a avid watcher will have a great time with this story line. Like a book or a great story teller it captivates what we ask alot in loneliness, self discovery and passion towards remember truths or lies. Don't let the low end critics bring you to despair of this movie for it's a great one. So please, give it a try. Hop on here and leave your honest review so the "critics" can learn that one sided opinions ain't cool. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review Bumbling K How is it acceptable to let Zionists work in mainstream movies? Adam and Gal are both in the same boat, should be boycotted. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review Jahan R If you have an IQ lower than 110, you won’t enjoy this movie. That’s not a dig on people who don’t give this 5 stars, but it is recognition of the deeply intellectual nature of this film. There are basic pieces that you’ll have to look past to really enjoy the heart of this movie. It’s about ambition, guilt, loss, shame, folly, and love. It’s an epic display of Sandler’s range and appreciation for the pain of the human experience. It’s his “Eight Crazy Nights”, but for pure drama. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/04/24 Full Review Suzanne W Wow, it either hits you in the feels or it doesn’t. Maybe you watch it at the right time and it has something you needed to hear. No, the basic theme isn’t novel. Love is what makes our tribe (humans) unique. We should lean into love and look outside ourself. Our loneliness is rooted in our ability and need to love and be loved. I enjoyed Sandlers acting, and it’s been deeply rewarding following his choices in films and seeing him develop great depth in his roles. I will continue to mourn Hanous’s arc and demise. His gentle presence but firm honesty was both disconcerting and comforting. He was a great guide through a journey we all revisit time and time again within ourself. 10/10 will watch again. Oh, and don’t get caught up in the “realism” missing in the plot. It’s not the point. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/31/24 Full Review Hannah N The budget and sets 100% spot on I get there was a message in the movie but tbh it just felt like a spider giving marriage/ life counseling. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/27/24 Full Review Kiana V Did not think I would like the movie as much as I did. I like how Sandler made a metaphor out of life.
