In 2008, Wall Street guru Michael Burry realizes that a number of subprime home loans are in danger of defaulting. Burry bets against the housing market by throwing more than $1 billion of his investors' money into credit default swaps. His actions attract the attention of banker Jared Vennett (Ryan Gosling), hedge-fund specialist Mark Baum (Steve Carell) and other greedy opportunists. Together, these men make a fortune by taking full advantage of the impending economic collapse in America.

Who would have known a film about shorting stocks would be so entertaining? This film certainly breaks boundaries when it comes to business - It was casted and directed brilliantly, resulting in an enjoyable and informative masterpiece.

A talented cast and tight script makes for a compelling, real-life story about one of the biggest stock market crashes in U.S. history and how such a thing could possibly happen and/or why everyone should care. What makes this film more enjoyable than watching "Inside Job" (the documentary that tackles the same subject matter) is of course all of the tongue-and-cheek lines, cameos, and quality acting that makes this version much more enjoyable to digest. It is a very quotable film with a lot of purpose behind it that quite frankly is mandatory viewing regardless of one's outlook about the events that unfolded.

The Big Short is a very interesting movie, because dialogue moves the story forward instead of visuals. The characters are very interesting and fairly likeable. The theme of the movie is very serious, but there's a lot of comedy in it, which breaks the monotonity of the dialogues and exposition. The way the writers explain the complicated phrases of banking is both strange and interesting and the same time. The movie is very fast-paced, which makes the plot hard to follow in occasions, but without this, it would be boring. The Big Short is a fast-paced, thrilling movie even though it's mainly built on dialogues.
